I just bought a Weiand 9240P water pump but it does not fit around the timing cover?? It does not seem like the timing cover can be any smaller. The mounting area of the water pump is thicker than the old one I pulled off. Does this issue come up often? Can I grind off a little bit of the water pump?

It's always helpful to tell us what engine you're working on- - - - -we're not very good at reading minds. I've never heard of Weiand making anything but race engine stuff, so it's pretty obvious you're not working on a stovebolt six, right? Is there some reason for not using an original equipment type part?

No, a water pump is not a "grind to fit" part. Sounds like you're working on a SBC. Do you also have an aftermarket timing cover? Also don't forget SBC water pumps come in a long snout and short snout versions.

I've read some posts on other forums where the Weiand water pumps have some clearance issues. Most opt for a little clearancing with a die grinder.
