Although I did not serve in the military, I thank all that have and those that are still stepping up to the plate to keep us free!!

This a sobering fact. 71% of young Americans between 17 and 24 are ineligible to serve. And each year that it declines. That is 24 million out of 34 million. I read it twice. The reasons are lack of education, criminality, and obesity. I am not trying to put a damper on this post, I was looking for the figures how many volunteers we had and this poped up. BTW I volunteered mainly because my number was coming up. And I served In Viet Nam, 1968.

Good read. Thanks for posting it Jerry. I'm a Vietnam era Vet, although I never wound up overseas.
I couldn't help but notice one phrase in there that's pretty telling politically, but I can't quote it here.

Ron, here's a sobering statistic- - - - -in my father's generation, the ones who fought and won WW II, 11% of the eligible citizens served in some capacity of the military. By the time you and I went to southeast Asia, that number was down to 3%. My 24-year-old grandson, who is a disabled Marine who got permanently injured somewhere (classified) in the sand box, is one of only 1/2 of 1% of today's eligible kids who put on a uniform and protect our freedom. That's one of every 200 young people! I'm thankful for him, and his peers, active duty and veterans.

Jerry,

Thanks for posting the article, and thank you and the many that served with you for your/their service. Our returning warriors should never be treated like many NAM Vets were.

Our nation was much different then, maybe we have all learned a lesson and are treating our military much better now.

Welcome home!!

God blessed me to be born an American. My time in the navy and Vietnam was a very memorable experience.and changed me (for the better). Yes my flag fly's every day. America may not be perfect, but there is no other place in the world that even comes close.
