I cant see the value in not having the driver side lockable/unlockable with a key. I searched this forum but looking at the titles of the post I don't see anything like what I want to do.
Has anyone had any experience with adding a door lock to the drivers side? I would prefer one that had the key in the door handle but the handle still look stock.

This has been speculated-on (in here) for many years.

Back in the good old days, when you parked on a street, you did not get out on the street side (you could get hit by a vehicle in the road).

People simply got into the safe habit of :
- locking the driver's door from the inside
- sliding over to the right side
- getting out through the right-side door
- looking that door from the outside

Confirmation of this can be seen near the end of the excellent movie "Hud". The kid got in and got out of the right side of his old Chevy pickup truck (out of habit - in his driveway).

Thanks dads50.. Looks like this will take some prefab and work.. I was really hoping I could use a handle or lock from a 51 -??? That would be an easy fix..

Coilover posted this a while back. The pictures are the same as in the link DADS50 posted; however, the text to support the pictures may be helpful and easier to follow.

I'm confused (what else is new, says the wife) that the title of this thread says "Replacement door latch", yet the content is about drivers side door lock....
