That's why I moved to an older area with lot's of space between the houses and no covenants. My opinion is that covenants are for the benefit of the developer to get all of his lots sold before any of the homeowners do anything that would hamper his ability to get full asking price. I would never again own a piece of property that is governed by a HOA. It's bad enough living within the city limits.

Our first experience with HOA was when we came back to MD in 1999. We were the community managers for a development. Talk about covenants ... and we were "the enforcers." Went from there to the farm ... ahhhh. yahoo

Now that we are downsized, this place has some rules and we were uncertain how that would go. Well, chickens ... and the rooster ... At the side yard, as regulars ... Oh, they BELONG 3 houses down. Makes for interesting conversation, fun to watch, and our dog has finally stopped marking at them. (The other place, that would be a fine ... The barking.)

And the fee ... $10 year.

I miss my Rhode Island Reds, the five hens and even the PITA rooster. Bobcat got all of them in one night and I'll always believe he was with the HOA.

Rusty,

We did. There is a piece of what's happening somewhere in there. I'll attempt to find a place, and some time, to give more of a low down on what's been going on.
