Inferior door latches

I don't remember where from, but I got a door latch with inferior quality. It broke at lunch as I closed my truck door causing me to drive home using a bungee cord to hold my door closed. The latch has been on my truck for less than a year.

Please be careful!

Chris

Always better to use NOS or good used hardware. Repops can frequently be of inferior quality. I read about a lot of problems people have with aftermarket door latch hardware also. As usual, buyer beware!

Can you show us a picture of where it's broken? Help us to inspect our latches. Perhaps the picture will help us identify the manufacturer/supplier.

When I take my door apart next weekend, I will post pictures. I can turn the handle 90 degrees and there is no resistance on inside, it doesn't return, and latch doesn't release. My guess is that it's a spring of something like that.

All the above mentioned problems come from poor quality & workmanship. Along with a shaft that slips on the handle.
There’s too much riding on those latches to scrimp on ping pong repro parts.
Kinda like using a shoestring for seatbelts.

I have included a picture. The area in the red circle is completely locked up. I am unable to move it, even prying it while holding it. There are no markings to identify the maker. FYI, is the drivers door

There are aftermarket alternatives available, most are pretty high cost or require modifications. I purchased NOS latches and strikers from eBay vendors, quality is OEM and they are direct replacements. They are more readily available then you would think, I bought one for now and one for later if needed. The reproductions do not last, there have been several reported failures immediately after install so I would avoid them at all cost.

I have found reproductions of these which I tried first to be 1/4" off the original dimensions.

Thanks, I purchased and installed a new set that appears better quality. We shall see what happens!
