Medical care rant.

I was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma, not my first. I got a call from my Dr's medical group wanting to schedule surgery but the Dr recommended someone outside the group she is with. So I was put on hold for what was to be 30 seconds which renewed every thirty seconds for 5 minutes, so I hung up and called her direct, so then her assistant said she could connect me, but the wait was now 10 minutes. And it was back at the same medical group. So I called her practice to see if they could ask her directly and tell me who to call, that was an hour ago and I am still waiting. The Dr. is retiring in Feb. to help her daughter with a new baby that is due in Atlanta, Ga. Her husband is my Dr. for my old man ailments but he is not retiring yet. The mother to be is graduating from law school next month then the baby is due then she has to take the law exam in another month. In the old days, it was not so much an assembly line or a corporation they had more of a personal touch. I would say what I think has caused it but I have not been censored in a while and I am trying verrrrry hard to keep it that way. ohwell

Hang in there Ron, someone will be on the line by next Friday. It’s certainly not funny when you are given a potential life ending diagnosis and you can’t even talk to the Dr to find out who she wants you to call. I wouldn’t blame you for being politically incorrect but I would have to slap your hand. Good luck.

No call and they closed an hour ago. I will just go in and find out in person.

That's the way medical care is nowadays. frown My wife goes to a Dr who all she does is refer her to someone else. Wife wants all her scrips to go thru her Dr. but she (wife) complains every time she gets referred. There's no such thing as GP's it seems, and back in the days when health care insurance didn't exist, the doc would come to your house with his black bag and treat you in your bed. I remember that when I was a kid.
Take care Ron, and good luck. I was going to suggest going in and standing on someone's desk. wink

I will be there Wednesday morning. I was born in a farmhouse in Northern Maryland and the Dr. came out and delivered me and charged $25.00 including medicine. When I moved to town if we got hurt playing we just went to see Doc Hyson. His son was my age and we went to school together.

Ron -- Truly sorry to hear about your issues. You fight the good fight.

Kevin ... Not sure about here you are, but it has to be worse than here (as far as being out in the sticks where it's hard to recruit good medical professionals). We have a great GP only the evil group he works for makes him schedule so many patients in a day (one every 30 minutes or so) I can't imagine how you stay on top of so many case files ... All they can probably do is near to triage and try and vector patients as best they can to someone who can zero in on it and not have to guess so much. But even then, if you present with anything beyond the standard, all they seem to do is throw monkey turds at the wall and see what sticks, hoping the patient doesn't get worse before they stumble onto a course of treatment that actually shows positive results. .,.. The specialists, on the other hand ...

Well, I just deleted a whole bunch more -- it violated just about every rule I've put in place here. Some days, it's a struggle to curb my urge to strangle patronizing stethoscope-wearing lab-coated ... I'll stop there. I have a wife to attend to.

Besides, what would I know about anything ... I'm just the wheelchair motor.

Maybe we need to start a PM for a few of us to just let it all out on all of this medical issue...

Thanks, John, but my cancer is not the emergency type I have already had 9 surgeries they just are inconvenient especially when you can't talk directly with your doctor or at least someone in her office. I tried to avoid talking to the medical group that she is affiliated with but no she only lists that number and the hospital only lists the medical group. She has only been with them for about 1 1/2 years and now she is retiring next month.

Out of eleven ( yes 11) doctors I see exactly ONE that has good communication. She is a cardiologist from Sweden so I guess she hasn't learned how to ignore patients. Phone calls are always answered by a real person with no call back crap. When I first started with her she told my wife my condition was serious and then gave my wife her personal cell phone number with instructions to call even if it was three o'clock in then morning. How many??? Between her effort and several others I now am down to just two checkups per year involving the heart. Many of the other doctors say she is the best in her field and her patients really like her. I wonder why they haven't figured it out.
