It's finally winter here near Anchorage (the banana belt of Alaska). I think it crept up to minus 15F today.

I spent a little time in Fairbanks area when in the Army wandering around in the woods at minus 40. Not bad if you're dressed for it. Uncle Sam provides good stuff like bunny boots and multi-layer parkas. Have also seen it go from minus 40 to plus 40 in 24 hours. We were peeling down to our t-shirts.
I never experienced it, but have heard stories of people driving away from the treads on their tires.
