Where was the fuel tank and filler neck on 47 3100?

Hello. I know this may sound like a dumb question but on my 1947 the tank is underneath the bed on the driver's side and the filler neck goes through the side of the bed just behind the cab. I have seen several pictures of what say they are 47's but the filler neck seem to be in different places. How did it come from the factory? Thanks

The 1947.5 half-ton truck and the 1948 truck have the fuel tank under the bed and the filler neck goes out of the bed just behind the cab on the passenger (right) side. The tank was moved inside the cab in 1949.

Not sure how mine ended up on the drivers side. Thanks for the response!

This is interesting. We have always put the filler on the passenger side when we make bedsides for that truck. We have an original bedside with the filler on the passenger side and we used it for the pattern. It looks like more research is needed.

Very interesting indeed.. some 1947 trucks had the filler on the right and some on the left? ..My 1947 clearly had the filler on the right.

Is there an illustration in Brad's links that shows the fuel-tank filler on the left side?

The 1947-48 Salesman data books do not refer to side but state they are an inside frame placement, export perhaps?
