Good evening all, I'm trying to figure out the quantity and locations of the cross sills. According to the research I've done the '40 long bed has 4 cross sills(Front sill, 3 center and the rear cross sill)... so I seem to be missing at least 2. I'll attach a picture of my bed for reference.

I am also unsure of the purpose/function of the brackets in the last 2 pictures.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

James

A teacher, but always an apprentice.
I’ve never seen those brackets before. Perhaps they were used to help square up the box?

Those brackets look like they're at the cross sill location with the long bolts going thru the cross sill vertically and horizontally. I doubt they would help much in squaring up the box though. Just a WAG, for sure. As far as number of cross sills, there would likely be one at the location of each of the vertical long bolts. But that's just another guess on my part.
The guys at Mar-K can definitely tell you how many cross sills you need and could probably shed some light on the purpose of those brackets.

Thank you for the information gentlemen, I will call Mar-K for information as well.

That was my thinking as well klhansen on the horizontal bolts going through the cross sill block. And I'm thinking there are a total 5 cross sills based on those long horizontal bolts.

Thanks again!
