Back on topic, it would be neat to have that car just for the novelty of it-having come from the factory that way.

My wife's grandparents in 1963 bought a new Impala 4 door sedan with the 6 cylinder engine and Power Glide transmission. In 1970 they replaced it with another brand new Impala 4 door with--you guessed it--6 cylinder engine and 2 speed automatic transmission! Up until I read this post, those were the only two Impalas I had ever heard of with 6 cylinder engines. Good to know there's at least one more out there!

I was looking at the picture and noticed that the starter has the extended bolt for the front brace but the brace runs from the top of the starter case to the block. In don't recall seeing Delco Remy starters with a tapped hole for a brace in that position. Martin, would you look and see if your 65 is the same?

Evan, the bracket is still in place on the side of the engine block but the starter is a replacement installed in the late 80s and is not tapped for a bolt.

Thanks Martin, the bracket pretty much cinches it. I had gone to the Rock Auto site but all the photos are from an angle that doesn't show the top. I bet a rebuilt with the tapped hole is hard to come by.
