MGA s I have a MGB .Your engine will have casting numbers on the block and head that will help with identifying there is a site that lists the cast numbers to years and applications . The number on by the distributor if yours is a Canadian truck like mine won’t be the same as the American made trucks

A Chevy engine, so use various casting numbers to ID.

thanks guys, I think I should replace the clutch assy and bearing before reinstalling the drive train .Just wondering if they would all take the same parts. Athab3

Athab3, you say "engine # on plate by Dist is 135762". Do you mean the flat machined surface, or a separate plate/ tag affixed to the engine?

Nice MG , Google 235 casting numbers for your truck engine and you will see the information and will be able to tell approximately the year of your engine

This probably doesn't help since you have a Canadian truck. Their numbering system is all different from the US system.

Still, the number location information is valid.
Also see attached image that may add something helpful.

Is there a casting number on the lower front right of the block? Usually that’s where I’ve found them on my 261’s from the Great White North. If not, there may be a casting number hidden near the back right beside the starter. If there, the numbers will be very small (about 5/8” tall) and likely covered with layers of gunk. Very hard to find and see whilst in the truck. The one 261 block I have has a number here and it is a ‘57. I bet yours is near the back as well.
