Yes, the SM420 will mount up to the torque tube. You you will need the bearing retainer and 4-speed yoke, which both are difficult to find. PM me if you want details, I just did the swap in my truck.

I searched Ebay for French lake auto parts and found 836 results but didn’t see any yokes or other SM 420 parts. If you happen to find it again please PM me a link. Thanks.

You likely will not find these parts by a simple internet search, they are rare and hard to come by, but can be found with some persistance. A junkyard with a 1/2 ton truck with 4-speed transmission is your best bet. You will also need the speedo gears as well.

There is a factory diagram in this thread:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=467075

Gasket set you will need:

I have the part numbers for the bearing retainer and yoke at home written down in my truck log, I will have to look them up tonight.

Well if yours is a 1.5 ton it will have the open ujoint configuration not the one of the picture you posted. Much easier to locate and you can use any open sm from 48-67.
You better get a look under your truck because you were about to buy the wrong setup. Plus, doesnt your e brake come off the side of the transmission? You will need to find a heavy duty trans that has this extra shaft on the top cover.

I have looked under my truck many times I know it’s a torque tube and not open driveline. Mine is a 1940 1.5 ton with crashbox 4 speed and torque tube.I want to swap the crashbox over to a SM420 and am gathering the parts to do so. In order to do the swap I’ll need some parts from a 48-54 that had the SM420 set up for a torque tube. From what I know the 1.5 ton yokes and torque tubes are different than tube half ton stuff, I’m looking for 1.5 ton parts NOT half ton.

That info would of been best included in your first post. Have you thought about how you are going to hang your pedals? How are you going to account in the differences in transmission lengths with a fixed torque tube?

Yes I should’ve mentioned what it’s going into. For the pedals I’m going to make a steel plate according to the pics on page 4 of this thread:
