As I sit here perusing the forums, laalaaI couldn’t help but notice there has been no chatter on the ODSS as of late!
I’m not insinuating that I miss you folks, but deep down, I guess I am frown. So ...... what’s been going on? Plans for turkey day?
Anything? I can forward my Christmas list to you, if you wish dance
Maybe the Northern contingent can get an impromptu cruise rolling, soon?

3 hours and no one has jumped in here. So I will.
Retired life is good here in Mid Missouri and already had some snow on the ground.
We are getting ready for next Saturday because we are hosting all my inlaws for Thanksgiving.

Do you know the difference between inlaws and outlaws?
Outlaws are wanted!

Deer season is wrapping up. I have not heard the numbers yet, but there has been the normal gunshots around our place.
Scares our dog though, but he did score a eight pointer last deer season, swam it to death.
I kid you not, here is a video and pictures I took of him chasing the buck across our pond.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XJg-lx610w

And I hope to attend next years Homecoming. It will be my sixth time.
Don

That's a fine Sporting dog you have Don ! I'm impressed that he got the deer in that manner and didn't give up. Our hunting season in Va is just getting started for regular firearms season..I usually do a great deal of hunting. Oh by the way Don, I'm fine with you sending me an old Pontiac as a Christmas present just in case you were wondering what to get me this year!

That Pontiac has not seen the sun in about 12 years.
All original and never restored.
It has turned into a barn find when if I sell it, or the wife does after I kick the bucket.

And yes, Shep is quite the hunter. Several squirrels, 2 groundhogs and I hate to say it, a few chickens.
Last time I caught him with one, I beat him with it. He hasn't brought any more home since.
I think he learned not to mess with skunks. Last week I drove up to the barn after dark and got one in the headlights.
He just stood there and I just backed away and went back to the house.
2-1/2 years old and he has come home skunked twice.

Don, send that dog to Mike Roache and I. We need him to help us get some stripers. We went out Friday and got nada. Had a lot of fun, though. And as always, time on the water is refreshing to the soul.

Turkey day plans at HQ mainly involve a trip to DC in the sporty German supercar to collect Grandma Stovebolt at the aerodrome.

Here's a shot Mike took from the bow -- where he had escaped to because I was about to hook him and use him for bait. eeeek

It was chilly (air temp was in the high 40's or 50-ish as I recall) but we were dressed for it. Seas were only 2-3 ft and swells, not chop. It was nice and enjoyable. I was concentrating on the speed and heading so that Mikey wouldn't yell at me ... again. Getting yelled at ... on my own boat ... the things I put up with around here ... brrrrr I got my revenge on the run back to the pier, though .... hehehehehehe eeeek

Jim, that's what I said when I saw that picture. Do you think the strippers thought the same thing??

Its is too quiet. I think I may be somewhat guilty because I was not ready for the warm season to end and cold to get here. I did get to spend the day in the shop and tinkered with the One Ton for a while. Every time I do I am amazed at the condition that truck is in. I have been having fun with it.

First time ever, no big plans for Turkey dinner, just me and my wife and a take out dinner. Actually, kind of looking forward to it for a change. I might have to fry up some po'boys and some jumbo lump crab cakes for an appetizer!

Don't think that is the place to look for stripper's.

Nor here, you can catch an eyeful any hot summer day though. 150 yards from the patio.
One pic was taken off our dock, of the type of boats we have here in Mid Mo.
All pictures were taken by me.

Anybody want to stop by next summer?

Not much going on here. Deadwrench will probably go into hibernation this weekend. I have some plans, maybe an NV-4500 if I get a Christmas bonus, or some side racks for the bed. I'm diddling with my Cub Cadet 70. And working too many hours.

John the easiest way to get strippers is with dollar bills. I’m not quite sure what your using for bait!

When the wife gets out here to visit, I’m going to tell her that I plan on attending homecoming. That will give me a chance to pick up her items from VA.

Have a great thanksgiving gents! I miss you all, even the northern alliance and that Don King guy!

Go back up and look -- *I* said ---- striper --- as in Atlantic Striped Bass (Morone saxatilis).... This could be a looooooong winter ...... nono

Billy -- we *both* got spray in our faces dance Feeling the seas up to your knees and a little salty water on the face renews the soul. Okay, so it wasn't exactly canyon running, but under the present circumstances it is better than nothing. A little spit of rain wasn't so bad, either. A fish would have been fun to bring home as a bonus, but I was glad just to be out on the water with a reliable engine smile .

Roger that. Its been a while but not that long that I don't remember what it is like running back to port and getting a little of saltwater in the face. Mmmmm, salty. grin

Oh and jocularity aside, you haven't been fishing if you haven't hooked up a big ol Stripped bass before. I've been fortunate to go deep sea fishing several times in my life but catching a 34" Rock out on the Chesapeake Bay was the best day I ever had with rod and reel. cool

Yes Martin, we have several big fish fries every year.
One is all crappie and another is catfish. Then a few smaller ones during the summer.
Along with a dutch oven of baked beans and fresh fried pork rinds, potato chips, wagon wheels and of course hush puppies.
Everybody brings a covered dish.

The last couple years I have been deep frying at the homecoming.
Pork rinds and tater chips.
When the guys are getting hungry, I can't keep up with the chips. Usually go thru about 15 lbs. of taters.

John, it would have been in a mid 60's Nauset and it would have been on the other side of the "arm". Most likely one of many trips heading south from Turo towards Rock Harbor......aaahhh, I can still smell the 2 cycle and hear the purr of that big black motor......zzzzzz. What memories!

On a completely different note. Well done on the changes to the site. Its looking pretty sporty. I like it.

That ride back in without much to hang on was quite the challenge for sure. The rail next to me was all I had. I was using the windshield but it was too rough and I didn't wanna tear it off the console. Ol' John was definitely bringing it home. Probably the most fun I've had on a Boston Whaler in awhile. Any other boat would have had me laying in the bottom crying. Very stable and predictable in heavy seas. I've been out with Josh and his Dad on his Dads 45ft Hatteras on the bay and we caught alot of 30 inch Rockfish. Hopefully John and I will find our way there before the season closes.

Mikey -- Before Faith P and Makai go into the yards for their OWP ("Over-Winter Availability" ... that's shipyard speak for winter storage and maintenance... smile I'm the son of Maine ship builders, remember?), even if we lose the striper season, let's do a run to Solomons just to cruise and contribute to Global Warming. Preferably on a windy, chilly, rainy day so we don't have to dodge lubber Yuppies in their Bayliners and Yammie jet tubs smile Or crazy (but dry and warm) SMIBs in their 40-ft Hatterases ... wink

Billy -- Still ... That Bay is an impressive body of water ... our dinky Chesapeake Bay tributaries pale in comparison. smile. If you earned your Whaler chops there, you are certainly one of us.

I believe I shall just put on some short pants and a t-shirt and lay on the wet lawn in a cold rain, then drink so much Jim Bean that I vomit.
I will thus accomplish the exact same result while saving the planet (or cause the next ice age to arrive sooner, depending.)

Should be about the last of April Chris.
Really hope the Griggs can host it again. They have a great setup.

You would fit in well, traveling with Tim and I.
If Tim makes it in again, We'll shoot for Beale Street Friday night and Nashville Saturday night.
Then do some sightseeing the rest of the way.

I am trying to figure out how to attend. I might tow my old truck and then pick up my grandfather so he can attend also. Afterwards, I need to go up to our old house and pickup some of the wife’s things and move them to TX.

Looking for an excuse to take red truck for a ride we attended 2 local parades Thursday and Friday. 5 kids and 5 adults in tow. Giving out tons of candy and making kids as well as adults smile, everyone having a great time especially me. The highlight of evening was 5 year old Liam Who leaning into me and whispering I love you Mr Pat then I love your truck. Lol. Wow, what better way to ensure the longevity of our hobby than planting these memories in our youth. That's all I have to report Jim, no striper, stripper, or deer hunting dog stories, just otherwise pretty quiet in the valley. Pat66

I had the pleasure of riding in Pat's rig this past summer at the Winchester Truck Show. It is as nice on the inside as it looks on the outside. Absolutely amazing!

Well this thread has died out again so I thought I would give you some warming news.
Got an email from Tim down under tonight.
He said it's 105 degrees in New Castle right now.
And good weather for a cold IPA!
He also took delivery of his new Hilux last week.

I was cutting firewood Tuesday and my open cold one was slushy when I took a break.

Don,

You need some moonshine to keep you warm. No slush!

A jug of Captain Morgan is on my to get list.
But I'll stick with slushies until the chainsaw is put away for the day.

Natty Light is my slushie of choice.
Splitting wood today and smoking a turkey. 45 degrees for a high.
In Law Christmas tomorrow.
I'll be glad when it's all over with.

I heard that Natural light is trying out selling 77 packs in some areas.
I think it is Maryland.

I wrote to NL and said I need me some 77 packs........you know....for the holidays......so far they have declined to answer...
I read an article that said they were popular at colleges because the packaging could double as an end table...... cool
