Hello all,

I recently picked up two 1938 1.5 ton Ford trucks with Flathead V8's. Can someone recommend an online parts supplier similar to Jim Carters or Chev's of the 40's that handle FORD?

Thanks

Wrench Fetcher
Dennis Carpenter and Bob Drake are two good sources for Ford truck parts.

Mac's antique auto parts covers Fords from Model T's to the mid-1950's.

1938 flathead V8's will probably be 85 HP types, identifiable by 21 cylinder head studs and a big banjo-shaped distributor housing that drives directly off the end of the camshaft. The 1941-48 engines are 100 HP, and have 24 head studs and upper radiator hoses that exit at the center of the cylinder heads. They have a flat (pancake) distributor that also drives off the front of the cam. The 100 HP engine carries a "59-A" model designation. 49-53 engines have a conventional-looking distributor mounted in front of the passenger's side cylinder head, an "8-BA" model designation, and upper hoses at the front of the cylinder heads. There was also a downsized "60 HP" flathead V8 produced from about 1937 to 1940, but it's very unlikely you'll find one in a truck.

All these engines are almost bolt-in swaps, like the 216/235/261's, so be aware that those engines might be newer that the trucks.

MAC's has a complete inventory for old Fords and Speedway has many engine and drive line parts. Both are a bit easier on the billfold than most other suppliers. Flat head engines are NOT cheap to rebuild anymore and ones that do rebuild them are getting more scarce each year. Do some asking around as there used to be several good flathead savvy people in the KC area.

Seems like our Grand Pooh Bear owns a Ford.
Did he jump back into the closet?

My old F-250 has hauled many GM products!

Owning a Fjord and bragging about it on a STOVEBOLT website are two very different things, Donald.

But now that you bring it up, let's go off road sometime -- my E-350 versus your F-250 ... nanner
