My 235 is at the machine shop for a complete rebuild and I am adding the oil filter to it when it comes back. I'm going for originality here as this truck is all original. The oil filter would have been an add on from Ac Delco I believe, and I'm going to guess the orange/blue paint configuration. Would like to confirm this along with if those colors are available still and if new gaskets for the canister are available. This is a 59 3204.

Check tech tips. There is a comprehensive article on filters in the engine section. Cover gaskets are typically provided with the filter. The AC cover gasket is available as a WIX 15039, gasket for Fram and Innerline covers is WIX 15017.

The new gaskets come with a new filter cartridge.
I always use the Chev. orange engine paint & the light blue Chev. engine paint.

There have been a few discussions on the proper color for the oil filters here and on other sites. Its not unusual to see a black filter on a motor as well as the more recognizable blue and orange. So the more prevalent opinions are that the black filters are the factory installed optional filters, while the blue and orange version are the accessory versions installed at the dealer level or purchased over the counter. I have no empirical evidence either way but that seems to be the common scuttlebutt.
