Here is a GMC serial number decoder.

Try to decode your number - post your finding here and we will confirm.

GMC and Chevrolet used the term Panel Truck for that body style on a truck chassis.
I think Panel Wagon is more commonly used for the Sedan Delivery body - for that body style on a car chassis.

- If you have to stomp on your foot-pedal starter, either you, or your starter, or your engine, has a problem.
- The 216 and early 235 engine are not "splash oilers" - this is a splash oiler.

Good job, Tazdog

101-22-S-17030

101 = 10 = 1/2 ton
1 = short bed
22 = 228 engine (standard engine)
S = St. Louis assembly plant
17302 = 16302 th truck off the assembly line that year

Post the engine serial number that is pressed into the block at the rear of the distributor.

1951 was unique for GM pickups in that it was the only year with door vent windows and twist down door handles. 1950 had no vent windows and 1952 had push button door handles.

Unless, as in my case, some previous owner has changed the doors...
