I found this 56 Chevy on Craigslist. It was down near San Francisco, so quite a drive from where I live in northeast Oregon. I used a 3 day weekend to go down and trailer it home. It has the original 265 v8 and a hydromatic transmission. The motor was disassembled because of a cracked head. After getting it home I had some new tires put on, and took it to a friend to overhaul the motor. It runs great now, and drives nice. It is geared super low, the hydromatic transmission has shifted into 4th gear by the time I hit 25 - 30 mph. I plan on changing out the rear end with a 14 bolt to improve the gearing.

Is that about an 8 ft. flat bed?

Nice truck... it looks like it doesn't need much work at all.

Another quality post.

The bed is about 9’ 6” long and 7’8” wide. A little too wide for me, I would like to cut it down to 7 feet wide. There are lots of things that need to be fixed on it. But that’s half the fun.

I love these old flat beds, my Uncle had a 57', 235 with a 4 speed. He worked that truck hard. Another ask Force is always welcomed.
