What transmission would a 40 1.5 ton have? I know it’s a 4 speed and original. Is it normal for it to grind in every gear? Mine does. I also have a lot of gear Noise sounds like the rear axle whine. What years of axleswill work to convert the old torque tube?

Tony,
welcome to the Stovebolt. It sounds like you have a great truck there. The 4 speed transmission is not synchronized in that year so except for starting off from a stop, it requires the technique of double clutching.
