Since finishing my 53 in 2018, I have got the bug again and drug home a 64 GMC. It has the 305 V6, SM420 trans, and Dana 44 rear end for running gear. It is a Custom Cab wideside with 8' bed. Has factory power steering. I just finished a two day sweep from under and over the truck and it is cancer free and I'm the fourth owner, previous owner attests to the 39,601 miles on the odometer. It has some imminent needs before I put it on the road. Needs a complete service and fluids changed, the front cross member that the bottom of the radiator sits on was used as a tow point in the past and it had been pulled from the frame rivets so needs replacing. Rolling on 22 year old rubber so, that is going too. Plans are for a cab off restoration in the future. Oh and the Ford hubcaps are going too.
Thanks guys, it is going to be a fun project. Would like to start another cab off next spring. I have to get it road worthy first to see what it is going to take. It has gotten a oil change and filter, I can tell you that hadnt been changed since Christ was a child. New mineral oil in the sm420 and gear oil in the rear end, then fixed the front cross member and put the radiator on fresh rubber mounts. Then get this put 3 gallons of concentrated anti freeze and 4 more gallons of distilled water in the cooling system, darn. The solid lifters were adjusted ,they were way too tight and too loose all over the map, thinking Ray Charles must of did them last. With a tune up it purrs like a kitten. Then ran a quick compression test, not really impressed about 115psi in four of the holes and about a little more than a 100 in the others. Supposedly 7.75to 1 should make about 115psi so it might need to have the valves ground and new guides in the future. Welded up a pin hole in the oil pan that somebody in the past stopped the leak with a sheet metal screw. Need to check out the brakes next. Then onto some electrical gremlins. I'm going to put a seal kit into the power steering control valve, it is leaking badly. (Slave type power steering).Tailgate, box sides and front panel look very well taken care of, no dents if you can believe that, I'm blown away by its condition.
Had the truck now for a couple months and fixed all the leaks, rebuilt the power steering pump and control valve. It is going to need valve guides and seals and new bed wood next. My focus may have changed. Now I'm wavering of whether to do a full cab off resto on it or keep it driver quality. Not real fond of the repaint it got in black 6 years ago, much prefer the bright colors. The truck was originally light green in color. I'll probably pull the bed off and cleanup the rear portion of the chassis after the new year and decide how nutty I'm going to get. Until then Merry Christmas to you all.

Good looking truck, even if it is black. My current DD is black and it is very hard to keep clean. You certainly do not see a lot of the V6 305ci running the highways today. Clean it up and drive the heck out of it, just don’t stray too far from the gas stations.🤣
