When my aunt and uncle had my 1952 3100 restored, they upgraded to a more modern Holley 2bbl carburetor with a 5⅛" neck. I really hate the air cleaner that's on it (see attached). It just doesn't fit the truck, in my opinion. I would really love to have something that looks more period correct and was hoping to get some suggestions here. I'd like to stay in the 10" diameter range if possible; the 14" options just seem like they'd be too big. All suggestions are welcomed—thanks!!
Other than installing the carburetor in the first place, they made the right choice. You could adapt an original equipment air cleaner to that carb, but it would still have the goofy-looking Holley on it. Definitely DO NOT go to some sort of small-diameter filter- - - -it will starve the carb for air and make the engine run rich. My 80 cubic inch Harley has an 8" air filter on it and it's just about right for that size engine. Jerry

Thanks, Jerry. Yeah, they weren't necessarily "car people;" they had it restored because it belonged to my grandpa and they wanted something "reliable" (their word). I can't say that I don't enjoy the automatic choke, haha! I definitely don't want smaller than what's on there now. I was thinking something with a recessed base that would kind of hide the Holley might work. If I go that route, maybe the 14" would be best. I was just hoping someone would have some pics or suggestions for a more fifties-looking solution.
Any opinions on this? It won't cover the Holley as much as I'd like, but I feel the rounded look is inline with styles of the truck's era. I probably wouldn't keep it in bare aluminum; probably go with
Bartamos, I wasn't talking about painting the carb; I was talking about painting the air cleaner I linked. Also, I know how forums work. I clicked the link button and pasted the URL into the box and that is how it posted.
If you have an opinion on the air cleaner in the link I edited and fixed to display properly (doing all this from my phone, btw), I'd love to hear it as that is why I began this thread in the first place. If not, that is ok, too, but let's please dispense with this back and forth nonsense. All it's doing is cluttering up the thread. Much obliged.
