Tim, great to hear that your family are safe. I was confident you had made preparations for situations like Dorian. " It Just a Box of Rain". Michael...

This is going to be interesting..the storm is picking up steam and coastal areas - including Peggy's Cove are being evacuated. I think we are about to get out arses kicked.

They talked to one local fisherman who said he was getting ready for the " big blow by sharpening his chainsaw". Typical bluenose reaction.

We got some wind last night and sideways rain. We got just enough rain to refill my little fish pond (its been dry around here up until last night). That made my delicious bass very happy. Its about six pounds and begs for food.

Quick update: almost everyone on our long country Road has well water

No electricity - No water - no toilet flushing (some people filled their bath tubs for use in flushing)

Many neighbors have potable gasoline fed electrical generators, but not able to run well pumps.

Our big generator is humming. I will send an invite neighbors to come on over with big buckets and filll up from our outdoor hose spigots - to use to flush toilets.

That's being a good neighbor for sure. Maybe after this you'll see more whole house generators in the area.

A nearby electrical substation got fried by lightening.

It will be 5+ days to obtain and install the replacement equipment/transformer. We are a somewhat rural area - low priority. 30K residences without electricity in our sprawling county this morning.

My big generator has to be stopped every 12 hours - to check the oil level. I can probably go 7 more days on the propane tank that I have in the ground. The propane supplier is 3 miles down the road. I’ll ask them to check/fill on Tuesday.

My tree-trimming and removal paid off - I lost one 15-20 foot 3-4 inch diameter tree - uprooted.40 feet from my garage.

Calm, clear, and pleasant weather today.

Electricity is back on around Kill Devil Hill and Nags Head on the Outer Banks, Ocracoke Island is isolated and a long ferry-ride/voyage - no electricity and little fuel,

Tim, I'm glad to see you came through so well. Smart move for the big generator. I saw where Ocacroke was under water to the second floor of some homes.

Hard to believe the average altitude is 3-5 feet on Ocracoke.

Most houses are on tall/deep stilts/pilings.

Those folks from Ocracoke know what they are up against living there, or a they should anyway. That's the price you pay to live in paradise.
