What Hubcaps will fit my '49 3100 15" 6 bolt wheels? #1323343 Sun Aug 25 2019 01:46 AM

Dear friends,

My '49 3100 15" 6 bolt wheels need hubcaps but checking the vendors offerings I do not know which ones will fit my wheels. In the pictures there seems to be bosses on the wheel the cap snaps over, Could anyone help with a model and vendor they have found fits these wheels?

Best regards,

Joe

Factory or reproduction AD hubcaps require retaining clips, it appears this wheel does not have them. Reproduction clips are available, installation requires you to locate, drill and attach them.

Those wheels are likely from mid 60's trucks. The stock caps from that era vehicles would fit but would not be correct for your year.

You could just go with B F Goodrich or Goodyear raised white letters without hubcaps and roll like old school NASCAR. I really like that look.

Call Jim Carter , he sells reproduction hubcaps to fit later model style of wheels.

I'm not trying to knock Carter, buy I bought a set of his repop hubcaps several years ago when I restored my 1940 truck. They are correct, and look very nice, and they also fit. BUT, the metal is so thin that no matter how gentle you try to be when installing them, you will dent them. I ultimately tried tapping with the palm of my hand and still dented them. Of course when you dent them putting them on, there's no way to get to the back side to pop the dent back out. So, you end up driving around with expensive dented hubcaps. I imagine that all of the reproductions are the same, and I'm not really sorry I bought mine, but I was very disappointed in the extremely thin metal.

Definitely not stock, but I purchased a set of "poverty caps" at a swap meet that the seller claimed was off of a 71 Nova for my 15 inch wheels styled like that. Pretty cool baby moons with little Chevrolet emblems on them , and the uneducated public assumes they are stock. I think they are a 10 1/4" diameter.

I doubt that the "poverty caps" or "baby moons" would fit with a long spindle as shown in the OP's pix.

There was a discussion recently about this; https://www.stovebolt.com/ubbthread.../true/re-hubcap-dilemna.html#Post1296622

Thank you for all the great answers.

Hubcaps.com have 10-1/2 dia nova hubcaps that are raised which may accommodate the hub.

Can confirm these poverty caps (Nova so I've heard) fit my 15 inch 6 lug rims like those pictured in original post. Front hubs no problem. thumbs_up
