Welded in a 1/4" plate to patch the busted out right side crossmember section where the right side radiator support bolts.
Discovered it when I pulled the clip for an engine swap.

I actually got a 4.10 gear setup for my 63 gmc 2500 and it was less than 10 miles from me for $75.. Im excited about it considering how much I read about these far and few between. The 5.16s are already out.

Prepped the running boards for welding on brackets and reinforcement and primered the new tailgate and cross-sills I picked up from Mar-K. Used a couple of spray cans of 2K epoxy primer. Worked pretty well. I'd been waiting to have enough stuff to use them on as they only have a 4 day life after activation.

Scraped, degreased and cleaned my empty 49's engine bay, inner fenders and radiator assembly and hit it with a couple coats of satin black. Even with it being a satin finish it looks almost too shiny to match the original patina'd exterior which I have no plans to change at this time. I may hit it with flat, I dunno, it looks good and won't be seen with the hood down, still studying it....

I've removed the original (leaky) radiator, disconnected all the electrics and water hoses in readiness for engine removal and M2 crossmember.
I've at last got to the bottom of my handling woes,it turns out the M2 crossmember is in entirely the wrong place and no amount of adjustment will get the geometry correct,it's only 4 tyres in 17,000 miles and a scary fender bender too late.....:
I have a complete new M2 crossmember along with a new aluminium radiator waiting to go back in,i've already done the Altman door latches and plan three point seat belts.(finally!)
I might even get some proper paint on it this year!

It's fast approaching 16 years of ownership and i'm still telling people it's not finished! blush

As anyone knows I am not a mechanic, I do have some skills in that general area but because if I mess up it means a tow to town, be that it may I decided to replace the new distributor cap with the old one I took off and also the rotor. If you have read the trials and tribulations of the last 1 1/2 years you would know why I am doing this. I did it and the truck started right up and seems to run a little better. I had some surging and hesitation when I first drove off. Now only time will tell if I did right. I have been driving it more as a regular truck than a show truck, hauling rocks, yard trash, mulch, and other yard debris.
