235 Rocheser Carb Base to 216 Carb Swap

I was wondering if I could swap the base from a 235 rochester carb to a 216 carb. Anyone know if it will work? My 235 Rochester carb is bad and I have two good Rochesters from 216 engines. If I can just swap the bases to match the 235 bolt pattern then I'd be good to go.
Still trying to get ole Betsy back on the road.

Will it work?
Maybe.
Will it work well? Should be good for a 20 percent power LOSS.
Jon.

I did this with a Carter and it ran. However, once I finally located the correct Carter YF for my 235 the performance and gas mileage were noticeably improved.
If I were you, I'd keep looking for a 235 carburetor. Place an ad in the Swap Meet 'Truck Parts Wanted' forum.

I have seen the carbs for the 216 with the mounting holes elongated to mount them. Folks do what they need to do to keep them on the road!

Okay, thanks everyone - that answers my question. Now how do I find out what is the correct Carter carb for my engine?

Thanks. Looks like I need 2100s for my 54 235.

Hey Jon, I found a 788 YF will that work ok. Your list says 1959-52. Mine is a 1954.

788s fit 1950~1952, not 1959-1952.
Will it work?
Don't know. Have always thought engineers knew what they were doing.
Check the second line in my signature block.
