Hello, new to this forum I have poked around a bit. I am a member of 67-72 chevy trucks site. I sold my 50 4dr chevy sold my 68 short step. I bought my dream body style truck. it is a 51 GMC. stock appearing (I like it that way.) it does however have a "newer" numbers say 55-66 283. it appears bellhousing was changed at that time. rear diff has new drums brakes work great however it still has single chamber master. short term plans are wipers, new (non holey) exhaust. find and install proper choke pull off. fix drivers door hinge and latch. replace in cab tank to remove beer keg tanks. then for fun replace torque tube and dif preferably with s10 3.42 4x4 drum brake rear. and t5 trans. then a MII front end.. what of this happens first is yet to be determined. I may do MII first with brakes then rear and trans..... advice and encouragement accepted .. I even don't mind criticism. I LOVE the patina. it appears to have been painted 30-50 years ago. I rubbed it with 000 steel wool then a liquid "gold class" Maguire's wax.
all I want is a running driving cool old truck... prefer 0-70 and 70-0 safely... that will come. 51 GMC, 283 (55-66), truck 4spd. original torque tube.
Welcome to the Stovebolt. It appears you already have a "running driving cool old truck". That is a nice ride and I like it just the way it is.....but as we say here, its your truck and we are here to help you when needed.
Lots of knowledge here and if it ain't been done then this is the place to get it done. Be sure to ask questions in the most appropiate forum for better response and answers. Also, watch for bolters around your area. They are here....somewhere!
Welcome. Great looking truck! Fix it and drive as-is. Please post some pictures of the V8 install: motor mounts, bellhousing, trans, torque tube... I recommend spending some time behind the wheel before making any mods. Go slowly making changes. No real benefit to a MII front end that I can see. There are better choices for an independent front suspension.

Very nice truck! I love the patina look on this old girl as well. Nice find. I’ve been down the path you speak of. My advice echoes those above: enjoy it a little bit first! The rabbit hole can get deep very quickly.
