Yahoo email verification code question #1310425 Sat May 11 2019 11:39 PM

Hopefully someone is a Yahoo Email guru and can help.

I use a Yahoo Small Business email with the little consulting company I occasionally work for. While on a quick trip to oil patch country in Midland Tx last week I picked up a malware bug from the free wifi I believe at the cheapest hotel, Super8 ($124 per night).

I thought CClean and MalwareBytes had delt with the problem and a local IT service confirmed all the problems had been successfully quarantined.

Now my Yahoo is acting screwy, but I did update to the new Yahoo Small Business mail at the time issues started.

My primary concern now is when requesting a verification code, it arrives as (it always has) as a message, but "now today" it's from this phone number; +1(970)233-1689. Yesterday the codes (I didn't use) were from +1 (650) 353-3972. This is new. A search indicates both are from Palo Alto, and San Francisco CA. area. I don't trust a code from what looks like a private number.

I've tried to activate two factor sign-in, but my paranoia keeps me from using verification codes from the above source.

Am I foolishly too paranoid?

Thanks for any help.

I just tested my std yahoo account and it texted me the verification code from a 208 area code phone number.
It also sent me an email to my other account indicating it sent me a code.

Any phone number and/or area code can be "spoofed".

Neither the phone companies, nor the government are concerned about this type of fraud (too much money/taxes at stake?).

Wow, 208 area code is Boise Idaho.

On Spoofing, agreed it’s a big issue you would think worthy of Federal action.

I would think there's a contact us or support link on Yahoo mail somewhere that you could use to contact them to see if this is legit.

Yahoo is pretty elusive when it comes to any real time contact, but maybe these links will be useful for you.

Xena, “pretty elusive” is an under statement. I did find a Yahoo portal that accepted my query this morning. We’re traveling today so it’ll be late today before I can follow up. Our first Grand daughter is due tomorrow so we’re highballing to Tennessee.

Thanks for the links, hopefully I won’t need them. We’ll See!
