Hi I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on this, I'm trying to identify my axle, I have a 12 bolt diff cover, apparently 12 bolt ones weren't introduced until 1965??

Does anyone know what differential /axle my 61 would of had originally??

Also would it of been 5 or 6 lug axles, I have 5 lug all round

Regards Stuart

Yeah apologies for no pics I'm in Africa working, I know it's a 12 bolt truck axle it has the odd shaped cover, I can't seem to find out what the truck had originally if the 12 bolt didn't get introduced until 65??

I'm planning on changing the oil when I get home so hopefully I'll get numbers etc of the ring gear

Thanks

HO33 / HO35 corporate G.M. was used thru '62.
Round cover on rear, carrier housing bolts in from front, same shape a rear cover.
12 bolt, 8 7/8" ring gear axle came out in '63, has no removable carrier housing.

It would have been 6 lug front and back.

Thanks folks I obviously have a different front end and axle, I'll try and get some serial numbers to help identify these, I have discs on front so that's obviously a conversion,

You must have 71 up axles. They had 5 lugs & disc brakes in front.

Check the width of the rear axle from inside backing plate to the other backing plate. I’d be interested in what you get.

I’m currently parting out a 1961 C10. As I examined things, I noticed that the rear axle wasn’t original to this 1961. The X part of the X-frame makes contact with the rear swing arms with any load on the frame. The rear springs do not line up with the frame properly either.
I know that the rear axle I have is 1966-72 because of the park brake cable brackets.

What I’m getting at is that a 1963-72 rear axle is not likely gonna be a direct swap into a 1962 or earlier X-frame.
Can anyone tell me if the 1967-72 rear axles were the same width as the 1963-66?
