Hello All, I am new to the forums. To make a long story short, I was approached by my son to find a project truck for us to build. I gladly accepted the challenge, and the mission began. I have a desire to have/want things that nobody else has, and sometimes tends to be a curse. Well I have accomplished, what seems to be above and beyond, on finding something "rare". I am having problems trying to determine just what exactly I have. I located the id tag, and attempted to look up what I believe is the vin number, but when I put the number in it keeps telling me that it is not a valid number. Any help or ideas on this is greatly appreciated. Picture of id tag attached
So according to the tag, the model number is KV4008, and the serial number is F1022E. I will check the frame later today, but at this point this is the only tag i found on the truck. It is located inside the glove box.
Frank50 what i know at this point is that it is a 1964 GMC 4000, crew cab, factory 4wd, it has the 305c, and NP540GL 5sp. I would like to find out where it was made, what number it was off the line, wheelbase, etc... Thanks again for all of the help.
KV4008F1022E (This is what now-a-days we call the VIN) K=4x4, The V is Vacuum Hydraulic brakes (HydroVac), heavy duty 4000 series, 8 is trans, F is 1964-1966. 1022 production qty, E load rating. Chassis/cab. I believe it is 19,500 GVW (maybe 14,500?), should have a GVW tag. Truck was available with several bed options.?
Looks like the tag says 305D. The motor is stamped with 305(?).
Measure the wheel base to see what wheel base it has. (if I see an 11, it is 120" I think)
If you find a GVW plate, it will say Pontiac, MI.
If they started with 1001, yours is number 21 off the line.
If you want more info you will have to post all the numbers on the tag, can't read. You will have to post a pic to see what you mean by crew cab. COE style?...or really square is a "Crackerbox" GMC?.............. or "sleeper"?..tilt? The 1/2T and 3/4T crew cabs are very valuable.
