I have 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500, noticed the dash lights were out, not the fuse, replaced the light switch problem solved...for a while then the dash lights were out again. looked at the old switch and found the plastic piece the rheostat the allows to dim the dash lites was broken. got a new switch put it together fired everything up and saw a puff of smoke and the rheostat is broken again. Has anyone else had this problem? no new aftermarket products, dash is completely stock. sure could use some help with this one.

I have similar problem in my GMC, 99 1500, same body style as the 01.. Mine is just the message center display and the PRND12 and Odometer that light up intermittently. I read something about there being a weak solder joint somewhere it the gauge cluster. But I haven't dug into mine yet.

Guys, just a note. This forum is a Swap Meet Forum to be used for the sale/wanted of late model and nonGM stuff. It is not a question and answer garage forum. Questions related to cars/trucks newer than 1972 are accepted with open arms in the Greasy Spoon Forum. Thanks

Thanks Martin,

I didnt even notice where it was. I saw something that had to do with my truck and I immediately got interested. Can you move this so we can hopefully get some answers?

I can’t move it. I asked a Global Moderator to move the thread to the Spoon.

Martin, sorry for the trouble. I saw newer GM and thought that would be a good place to toss this question out there. Should have read a little further.
Spartan, thanks for the feed back, think I figured it out, had to go thru 3 bad new out of the box Chinese switch before I found one that worked past the first hook up. Of course reviewed all the wiring first thinking there was some kind of power surge somewhere. Turned out to be just poor replacement part workmanship.
thanks to all.

Chinese parts not working right the first time? Who would’ve thunk it! 😁
