I have a '37 half-ton, which I am building with a small block. I plan to use 1 5/8 Diameter headers. Since the distance between the frame rails is fairly narrow, I am hesitant about investing in expensive headers that might not fit. Does anyone have a recommendation for a set of headers that will fit in this application?

Don't know much about headers, but what about these do-it-your self headers that I see in Hot Rod. You have to weld them yourself, but maybe they would give you more flexiblity in position and routing of pipes? smile

another option would be to go with some shorty headers, and then you could have an exhaust shop match up the y.

I believe there are a few options but I think the best would be the block-hugger type.They are dasigned for that type of installation,just get some that are quality made and not the cheapie ones.You will spend a bit/lot more on the quality but you will be satisfied with having fewer problems.

if you're not too concerned with headers, try using mainfolds from a 88 or newer Chev truck or Camaro. These worked for me on my '40 frame and I have the added disadvantage of having an S-10 4x4 clip on it so there is lots of stuff to work around . Really plentiful at the wreckin' yards too as well as cheap. smile

Thanks guys. I thought about shorties, but they are not nearly as efficient as a good set of full-on headers. I decided on the 1 5/8 tube size because of the torque they offer, and have considered "weld-em-ups", but obviously, a set of readt-mades is a lot less work. I was hoping someone had a set in an early truck, who could give me a little advice here. The engine is centered (+/- 1/8 or so), and I'm using an automatic and a mustang II front end. This gives me some wide open space, since I can route the steering and locate the master cylinder to suit. My real concern, as I said, is just fitment between the frame rails. I'm looking for something the hugs close to the motor/transmission all the way to the collector. Any thought?? Thanks again. :confused:

I have a '38 with shorty headers . My wife drives a '62 chevy 2 and though I havent tried it , the chevy 2 header may be close to what you want . Just a thought - let us know what you do use.

well if you are going to try a set of long headers let me give you one word of advices; hookers! I'm running hooker super comp's, and the fit is great on my 350...
