Sorry if this isn't the right thread to ask, but what system/method do you use to fog the cylinders?

Let's assume we have a stovebolt engine with a single original-style carburetor?

Are you referring to oiling the cylinders for long-term storage, like over the winter? I've always used a very simple procedure that involves running the engine at a fast idle and dribbling 20 weight oil down the carb throat until there's a heavy smoke from the tailpipe, and shutting the ignition off. Then stuff a tennis ball or something similar up the tailpipe and cover the carb air horn with a few layers of heavy plastic and some duct tape or a bungee cord. That seals the whole intake/exhaust system from moisture, and keeps mice and other vermin from using the exhaust system as a nesting area.

I've never used any fogging procedure on my '48 because it doesn't sit that long.

But I have used Mercury's fogging oil on my vintage and newer Mercury outboards. You have the motor idling and spray the fogging oil in the carbs until you stall the motor and it quits. It's quite a smoky startup after storage which tells me the cylinders were indeed coated.
