Anyone on here from the Eastern Shore of MD by any chance?

It's a shame that I have to welcome you to the ODSS. I live in mid Missouri.
The ODSS is a rare bweed and you have to meet them with a long, big stick and ready to use it.
John is the leader and never turn your back on him.
Stand your ground and you may survive a Homecoming weekend.
They will drag you thru thru the mud and lagoons if you let them.

On the fun side, the Homecoming is something you have to experience.
Be ready to get down and dirty, eat good and maybe a few cold ones in the evening hours.

Ha!!!

Thank you for the encouraging words Don!
I’d would love to join the Homecoming one day and also hope to meet up with some folks nearby if there are in fact any. God knows I could use some help, but even within this group we are pretty spread out!

Welcome Andy. We are not so hard to appreciate. Not sure we have an eastern contingent yet. But you likely are not too far from the center of the sb world.

John,

I thought you gave me the mission to set up for the infiltration, rebuilding of trucks, and help Texas to raise up again against the inferior Ford trucks in the lone star state.

Updated SItuation Report: linked up with Alaska gasser in NM, neighbor’s 69 chevelle is legally licensed and on the road. 66 Chevy had legs stretched with owner vetted for worthyness of Stovebolt status, over 1,200 miles driven for recruitment purposes, lead 3 convoys, and got a Stovebolt in the center of the “cars and coffee meetings.”

Future Operations: infiltrate the local Chevy C-10 truck club to set up for follow on missions.

Then I heard the voice of the lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And Who will go for us?” And I said here I am, Send me!”

Hope I’m not interrupting wink

The truck supposedly spend most of his life in AZ. Should get picked up next week and be brought to good old MD.

Very original truck. Seller recommends to have the brakes bled, tank drained or maybe rebuild the carb. Apparently there’s a slight hesitation right after start that goes away once warmed up.
I’m planning on leaving the truck as original as it is and just run with the original paint until i win the lottery to repaint it. Will look into some protective coating though for the paint as well as the undercarriage.

Will probably retire it over the winter.

I may file charges against the Grand Poo Bear John.
He is a master at stealing the topic.

As for Chris being an undercover agent in the Ford circles.
Have you ever seen me drive a GM product to any Stovebolt events?
Yes I have brought GM's to them, but always on a trailer behind my old 7.3.
I am not a closet Ford fan, I'm proud of what they can do and will flaunt it.
Do a little research and see what top dog drives a 4x4 Ford van now.

Back on topic!
Andy has a really good looking truck headed his way.
And as you can read thru the lines, I'll have his back at the homecoming.
Tim will be backing us both up.

Don

Interesting modification on the valve cover. Looks like the vents have been brazed closed and vent pipes added to help to reduce dirt from getting sucked into the valve cover.
When your truck arrives, definitely drain and clean the gas tank.
"A slight hesitation right after start that goes away once warmed up" might be caused by the flapper on the intake/exhaust manifold being stuck in the "warmed up" position.
Absolutely beautiful truck! If it were mine, I would not do much to it at all, except drive the tires bald.
Full restorations should be reserved for ugly trucks.

Off topic: it’s fun being the oldest vehicle in the pack! 2ton, I also stated that I am meeting up with the 70s Chevy guys also. Not seeing much here for old fords.

Carl,
Are you referring to those candy cane shaped tubes on top of the engine?
I was wondering what those were and definitely didn’t think they were lifting rings!
I have to read up on the flapper you are referring to to better understand what you mean, but I do want to address this issue soon.
I was definitely going to drain the gas tank per the seller’s suggestion as well, but I didn’t plan on taking it out, clean and seal it. Should I definitely do so?
Probably not the place for these questions, but I do greatly appreciate your reply.
Andy

Trucks looking good Chris. Makes me jealous that I’m up against salt in the northeast and for the most part mothballed Deadwrench. NJ lays this brine down and it pollutes the Pennsylvania side who also appears to have a hell of a salt budget this year. How’s the 216 running? That truck has a hell of a MD/PA heritage. Keep snapping photos.

Andy - its official we hijacked your post. I look forward to seeing that machine.

John, I would like that lesson. I have been working in Lightroom these days. If you could believe it, that one is an Iphone photo, edited on the phone. I picked one of their filters which I assumes applies a a fair amount of sharpening. From there I de-saturated and you see what was left. I still have the notes in my book somewhere from that session we went over. Hands down the best editing process I ever learned to make an image pop, but somehow look natural. Lets wait for you to get settled and I'll make sure to circle back with you on that process in CC2018. Than you for the offer.

PS: There must be great weight off your shoulders based on the tagline "3804 and a whaler"........LOL, joe

Not yet... but the end is in sight. We've had some "scope creep" at the new HQ, but I'm blaming Sweet and Mike B for that. wave

It is pretty impressive what the smart phone cameras, and the apps, will do these days. An old friend (retired Navy Photog) and I were discussing what high quality shots and effects you can achieve these days with the camera in your pocket. He's been on a shoot over in WVa and some of the shots he's gotten with only his smart phone have been awesome (the natives get restless when the big Nikon comes out but don't seem to mind the phone ....)

Of course, knowing how to compose the shot in the first place kinda helps too wink

Joe,

The little 216 is leading the convoys! It’s running very good especially with that rearend we installed last homecoming. All the new cars stay in the back and everyone looks at the old vehicles, not the new! Hopefully we will get more older vehicles on the next trip.

Chris

He’s finally home!
After a transportation nightmare, I was finally able to drive the truck off the trailer and I on to the uhaul car carrier to bring it home.
It fired right up and it was a bit surreal to drive one after 20 years of looking for one.
I didn’t have much time to look at everything before dark, but someone did some work to the truck judging by the shiny bolts that attach the fenders to the body as well as on the running boards.
Gauges appear to work as well other than the gas gauge. 2 out of the three cab lights work, but none of the others.
Very happy!
Merry Christmas!

Congrats Andy!! Welcome to the gang!! I'm looking forward to seeing the truck in person andhaving you join us on our adventures!

As for us, here at HQ, Sweet and I got Buddy running (the '51 GMC 430 or whatever it is ...) and we all (plus Hambone) took turns driving it around terrorizing the 'hood inbetween tree customers today.

Andy, forgot to tell you, I am helping a young man work on his 46. It’s too bad they dropped a 350 in it. So far, just been able to help get him on the road, over the phone. He has a beautiful truck and can’t wait to see it in person.

Andy,
your truck looks good! What a fitting time of year for it to arrive. I think you will definitely have a happy new year!

As an ex-Marylander, I say hey. I have been to a couple of homecomings and even I though inept at most things mechanical I enjoyed myself. It is a twelve hour trip for me. But I visit relatives in Va. while there. Welcome, welcome.
