Is there a difference between the 1954 gmc and the 1954 Chevy trans
I have a gmc and have a good Chevy trans. Can I put trans. In truck?

One difference would be the flywheels.
Another difference that would most likely not matter: carburetors.

Cletis, we need you (he had both transmissions).

Maybe Greg Hill knows?

- If you have to stomp on your foot-pedal starter, either you, or your starter, or your engine, has a problem.
- The 216 and early 235 engines are not "splash oilers" - this is a splash oiler. [chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com]

I think there is a difference in the flywheel mounting-bolt pattern (and, number of bolts) on a 1953 GMC H-M, compared to the later Chevrolet H-M flywheel.

If that is correct, I would guess the later GMC H-M's bolt-pattern (and, number of bolts) would also be different.

The fluid coupling (no, it's not a torque converter) from the Chevy will probably interchange with the GMC transmission. If it's in good shape, that will probably solve the fitment problem when the GMC trans is bolted to the Chevy engine. Be aware that the runout between the bellhousing and the crankshaft centerline is extremely critical when the hydramatic is mated to the engine, so much so that Chevy matched engines and bellhousings at the factory on H-M equipped vehicles.
