howdy gang. it's been forever since I've been here but i'm yet again knee deep in a project and need some advice. I have a 51 3600 series that's the best one I've seen in years body has a 235 from a 55 in it that's in it with oil pressure issues. I've decided if that engine is coming uot, it ain't going back in even after I've spent a fair amount of money on it. i'm thinking a 250 with a 350 turbo hydro trans.. I remember(barely) from my youth there's a difference in the mounts but I can't remember what they are. I think the 250 is fatter on the bottom that the v-8 and the mounts are different. there's all sorts of places advertising v-8 mounts but I haven't seen a kit for the 6..i suppose I could go with the v-6 but I don't want to mess with the steering if I don't have to. (but I have considered an s-10 column to give me more belly room. any thoughts, knowledge in the 250/auto swap?

I just pulled a 250 out of a 49 GMC 100 (1/2 ton). It needed more work than I wanted to put in it.
The 228 that came in the GMC was longer than the Chevy 216/235/261 engines and based on what I observed with the 250, it is longer than the 228. The radiator on the GMC is already mounted more forward than the Chevy. There would have just barely been enough room for a mechanical fan but it sat too low so an electric fan is required. You may have to relocate the radiator alittle more forward, if so thats doable.
You'll need to cut the toe board and bend or cut the center panel for tranny clearance.
The 250's lower belt pulley barely cleared the GMC's front crossmember, I'm talking approx 1/4" - 5/8". Too tight to be able to get an alt belt on the inner groove without lifting the engine a hair or 2. So make sure you get a 3 groove lower pulley.
The 250 was bolted to a TH350 trans

Theres a bit of work to installing anything other than an AD era engine in an AD but a 250 would be alot less work than a SBC.

This Company makes motor mounts. I've been cautioned about using them because the piece that attaches to the frame bolts into the Web instead of the vertical piece. Easy enough to make another saddle piece and bolt it thru the vertical with bushings between the legs so you don't damage the mount while bolting it in place.
