41st Annual Hill Country Auto Swap Meet

Jul 27 to Jul 29, 2018

Car enthusiasts can find just about anything at this annual event. A free trolley service runs continuously all day between the parking area and the swap meet. Among the many items for sale are lots of vintage car parts, tools, old license plates, clothes, auto paint, and hand made items. The car corral usually has about 60+ nice vehicles for sale. Concessions available. It’s usually pretty hot, so dress appropriately and bring plenty of sunscreen!

Friday and Saturday 8 am to 5 pm; Sunday 8 am to noon. Free admission.

Address:
Lady Bird Johnson municipal park
Highway 16 South
Phone: (254) 751-7958

Left the house early this morning and arrived at the Fredericksburg swap meet by 8:15 AM. it was nice and cool with a slight breeze. A couple of the vendors said that yesterday, Friday, was the slowest day that had ever seen, but today there was a pretty good crowd. I met up with a couple of buddies who had a booth, and had driven their camper so they could spend the night last night. We grilled some good sausage, then made tortillas, complete with mustard and crispy dill pickles for lunch. I picked up a Roachester B carb in pretty good shape for $5, a pair of tailgate chains for $5, and my deal of the day ........ a ‘47-‘53’ tailgate for $50. The guy had $100 on it, but I offered him $50 and he took it. Said he didn’t want to haul it home. It’s got a little rust-through on it, but nothing I can’t live with. It’ll look good on my ‘51 street rod project. It got unbearably hot after lunch, and folks started packing up and going home by 2 PM. I joined ‘em.
Had a good time at a swap meet, visiting with friends and not having to work my day job! Hope all of you will try to make it next year.
