Why oh why do they make 5x5 trailer rims?

So, I picked up a used set of trailer rims and tires a month or so ago.

I have a 16 foot angle iron trailer that I have plated for 5000 lbs. It’s old and beat up. I just use it for runs to the landfill, Menards, scrap yard, etc...

I went to change one of the leaky tires on it. Rim didn’t fit. “New” rims, 5x4.5, “Old” rim, 5x5.

Argh! I didn’t know there was 5x5 trailer hubs and axles.

Moral of the story... Get the tape measure out beforehand.
