OK I looked through the swat meet Section and didn’t see anybody offering any so I’m asking I’m converting my 235 to twin exhaust (due to severely cracked old one) and I need to update the intake manifold to a newer twin carb style (due to thickness of manifold flange ) which requires two single barrel original carbs I have one looking for a good rebuildable or good not needing rebuilt also the manifold and linkage.

New to all of this so please help with correct info if I didn’t quite get my request right 😩

Already have the twin exhaust manifold 🎩

Tophat,

I have run 1954 original Rochesters on 1954 235s and 1959/1960 261s. You are not asking for opinions, so I will not offer any.

Be sure you obtain a Rochester carb that at-least matches up in physical design/configuration as whatever style Rochester you now have. There were/are different types of Rochester carbs that were used a 235s. The differences might not be critical to installation, linkages, "throats"/breather/filters, and tuning, but, the differences might/should be a consideration.

- If you have to stomp on your foot-pedal starter, either you, or your starter, or your engine, has a problem.
- The 216 and early 235 engine are not "splash oilers" - this is a splash oiler.

What year and vehicle 235 carburetor?

Most likely any two Rochester 235/261 carburetors are "too much carburetor" for any 216/235 engines.

You might be able get two 216 carburetors to work satisfactorily on a 1954 or later 235. They might still be too much (they seem to work well on a 261).

Tom Langdon used to sell a pair of Pinto carburetors (and a nice linkage) that seemed to be well-matched to a 235 (they seemed to be too small for a 261).

We have experts here (not me) that have posted a lot of info on carburetors. Some of the info is too technical for many of us; however, advice on what carburetors should work OK is often provided.

Try a search here (menu item to the right of "Control Panel") on these search-terms: +dual +carburetors

You'll get a lot of reading.

I have run 2x1, 3x1 235 rochesters on 235 motors, along with a host of other carbs. The 235 carbs are a speck too big for a dual set up on the street, same with a triple set up. If you go to the inliners website, find the article written by Pat Smith on dialing in a dual set up with Rochesters. Pat was the crew chief for Dyson racing team for many years and one of the best mechanics I know. I have done his adjustments. A bit of a pain, well maybe more than a bit, but worth it if you are insistent on Rochesters. The best dual single set up I have run on the street was with carter YF carbs for a 216. Smaller, better velocity, runs cleaner, uses the same main jets as a WCFB (maybe an AFB I forget now, I will have to check). I stopped running single bbl carbs probably 25 years ago in favor of ford pinto carbs.

So, the better solution (at least in my opinion) is to use a pair of 1974 ford pinto Holley Weber 5200 progressive two bbls. The 74 versions have threaded fuel inlets as opposed to the earlier versions with a pressed in brass nipple. Rock Auto sells them for like 150 rebuilt. Install them with the fuel inlets pointing to the driver side of the car. The main jets are in the bottom corner of the fuel bowl. If you install them with the fuel inlets pointing toward the motor, the jets are in the front bottom corner and so when you pull away, you uncover the main jets. Installing them with the fuel inlets pointing to the driver side of the motor puts the main jets to the back corner and the fuel will not uncover on acceleration.

You will need a pair of adapters for the 2x1 intake, and you will have to make up some linkage, but they run really well right out of the box on a 235 and well worth the effort. As noted above, the 5200s will run fine on a 261, in fact I replaced my original pinto carbs with a rebuilt pair from rock auto three years ago and they ran perfect right out of the box on my highly modified 261, but those motors (especially if modified) can take more carb. So for a 235, a terrific alternative. Tom Langdon now sells a carter/weber carb. Also a good alternative but a little smaller then the pinto carbs. I prefer the pinto versions.

Tophat here

what about the Clifford C-4501 aluminum 4-barrel, 6 cylinder manifold.

would that work on the 235 then get a 4 barrel carb.

I just plan on driving the truck round town not hotrod or long distance.
