Recently had a gem of an old Chevy come into my possession through interesting means. To make a long story short my grandfather has cared for a piece of farm property for a gentleman for around 50 years or so now with a barn and a few outbuildings on the property. The original owner has long passed on and has passed legal ownership down to his son but has stayed under the care of my grandpa. The owners aren't very active around the property so after letting them know the conditions of the majority of the buildings he began talking about pulling his dads old truck out before it could get damaged by a collapsing barn. After a lot of figuring and some pretty hard work I managed to free the old truck from its would-be grave and got it hauled to our shop and started addressing some of the easy (and cheap) stuff. There's some rust in the usual areas but the floor pans, doors and the majority of the cab are in good shape. I'm pretty new to using photobucket to host photos on so they'll likely be out of order but look forward to learning about these timeless trucks and getting mine back to king-of-the-roadworthiness. Thanks- Grayson

Great save, Grayson! And welcome to Stovebolt.com. Looks like you rescued it just in the nick of time, too -- either the rust was going to get it (and push it past the point of being repairable) or the barn was smile

Read through our Tech Tips (menu bar at top of this page) -- lots of shared knowledge there to get you started.

Welcome Grayson, It's a bit of a journey yet, but be sure to ask here if you need help with it. Good luck!

Welcome to Stovebolt.com, Photobucket is NOT the preferred hosting site for 90% of us. Even Photobucket members can’t view the photos you post. Try our own image hosting or everyone seems to be having good luck with Google Images. Looking forward to updates.

Central IL, again
No one has posted on this in awhile. So let me say Welcome to the Affliction. My first old Chevy was a 55-1st Series 3600. It wasn't stuffed back in a barn but left outdoors and used for a trash dumpster. I loved it anyway, and eventually I got it back on the road. Too long a story for here, but let me tell you to expect some surprises. Enjoy it... safely. smile

I appreciate you guys and Frank50 you're very correct I had almost forgotten about this thread. Me and the 3600 have gotten to know each other quite thoroughly over the past couple months. I finally got all of the rat nests out of the cab along with the factory bench seat and fuel tank. Now I'm in the stages of trying to figure out what to do next. My father and I are both pretty well against the idea of putting a nearly 65 year old fuel tank back in the cab with us (although it is in good shape even has some old pre ethanol gas still in it) especially with trying to fit in some aftermarket leather seats in place of the factory bench. I'm going through my options now and trying to find some room amongst the frame to where we could mount a fuel tank and have some cool ideas with a custom filler neck. Hopefully I can get some more pictures uploaded here sooner rather than later. Thanks again! - Grayson
