Engine/Transmission/Axle Combo #1251676 Fri Jan 19 2018 11:47 PM

This is my first post! I'm building a '56 3100. My plan is to run a 235 CI engine backed by a TH 350 that will turn the 3.73 rear end. I have all the parts and would like to use them and save $$$. Any experience or opinions?
Thanks,
Len

It sounds like a good combination once you figure out how to hook the automatic trans to the 235. Gearing would be about right with a 28" or taller tire.

Buffalo in WA makes an adapter plate to bolt modern bellhousing to B, O, P, Chevy, GMC blocks.

If you don't already have one , check with the wreckers in your area, 235's and 261's came with automatic and have adapters for powerglides which I understand have the same bolt pattern as the th 350

good planning is no substitute for dumb luck

My "experience and Opinion:"
Put in a V8, no adapters necessary. Why do you want a 6 cyl with a th350 and 3.73? Makes no sense. Gas mileage better...no, easier to do....no. Stay with original........no. There is nothing like the sound of a V8. Better resale also. Better acceleration.....looks better. Sell the 6 and buy a V8.
Where did the 3.73 come from?

I'm away on an ego trip. Will be back on Feb 30.

I charge $0.02 for every opinion and I take Paypal.
Plan B is always better than plan A, by definition.

...I think those adapter plates are about $450 bucks. That is enough to see what kind of "later/other" stuff is available. Makes even more sense looking at the "long haul". Just something to ponder about when you are sitting in that lazy boy thinking about how cols it is outside.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you smile

Gentlemen

Let’s stay on topic. This thread is asking how to do something. Not asking for opinions. A better approach would have been to show this combo may be cost preventative and leave it at that.

Like Joe H said, the 235 will not bolt up to the TH350...different bolt patterns.
