Will a 48 3 speed trans 4 bolt side cover, shift forks, and shift arms interchange with one on a 55.2 3 speed trans?

The side cover is the same except for the 1-R shift fork. The slider gear is wider on the later trans hence the fork is wider. There are two types of side covers: The ball type and the scissor type. Internal parts don't interchange but if both of the ones you have are the same, you can switch the parts. The 55-2 V-8 side cover is different than the 6 cylinder. The early truck side cover shafts are clocked with the 2-3 shift lever pointing up and the 1-R shift lever down. On V-8 trucks and 56 up 6 cyl both levers are down. Fred

Fred thank you for the reply. What I really have is a 56 overdrive trans, and a 48 standard 3 speed, and I wanted to use the 48 side cover on the 56 trans. Cause my 55.2 truck has the shift linkage with the bell crank set up. Looks like I still have to take them a part to see if it's going to work.

Brian, The 2-3 shift fork is a common wear part, use the best parts from what you have. Fred
