Ah yes.....The British!
Sometimes it does take a rocket scientist!

Scientists at NASA built a gun specifically to launch standard 4 pound dead
chickens at the windshields of airliners, military jets and the space shuttle,
all traveling at maximum velocity. The idea is to simulate the frequent
incidents of collisions with airborne fowl to test the strength of the
windshields.

British engineers heard about the gun and were eager to test it on the
windshields of their new high speed trains. Arrangements were made, and a gun
was sent to the British engineers.

WHEN THE GUN WAS FIRED, THE ENGINEERS STOOD SHOCKED AS THE CHICKEN HURLED OUT
OF THE BARREL, CRASHED INTO THE SHATTERPROOF SHIELD, SMASHED IT TO SMITHEREENS,
BLASTED THROUGH THE CONTROL CONSOLE, SNAPPED THE ENGINEER'S BACK-REST IN TWO,
AND EMBEDDED ITSELF IN THE BACK WALL OF THE
CABIN, LIKE AN ARROW SHOT FROM A BOW.

THE HORRIFIED BRITS SENT NASA THE DISASTROUS RESULTS OF THE EXPERIMENT, ALONG
WITH THE DESIGNS OF THE WINDSHIELD AND BEGGED THE U.S SCIENTISTS FOR SUGGESTIONS.

NASA RESPONDED WITH A ONE-LINER

"DEFROST THE CHICKEN."

I got to see a chicken gun in action at the Ft Worth General Dynamics plant when they were making the then new F16. With each new lot of canopies one was pulled and tested. The gun was just a length of heavy wall tubing about 40 or so feet long and plumbed into a huge air tank with an instant on type valve. When the chicken hit the canopy there was a light pink mist and NOTHING else. The bones and feathers were reduced to what looked like finger nail clippings. When the word got out it was "chicken gun day" there was a gathering of several dozen spectators. Also got to see an F16 with Israeli markings do a hot test of the Gatling gun type 20mm cannon. It was at dawn and the flame lit up the whole area. Probably a max of a 2 second burst but after full daylight one could see the entire tarmac was covered with shell casings.

Evan, the AC-130 "Spectre" gunships I worked on occasionally while in Thailand had three of those guns mounted sideways in the cargo compartment. They ejected the brass casings over the side, which were probably pretty hazardous to anything on the ground below! Putting the plane in a steep bank over a football field sized clearing and firing from about 2,000 feet altitude would put one round in every square foot!

The murder victim was drowned in a bathtub full of Rice Krispies and milk.
The coroner blamed the crime on a cereal killer!

When I was in training at Ft Knox they were practicing with the minigun and we had not heard anything like it before.

Nice story Ron. One of the versions has a cat crawling down the barrel to eat some chicken while the technicians were on lunch break.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you smile
