Trying to figure out the door latch assembly on the '46 project. I found remnants of two types of springs in each door, long ago. None were attached to any part. One is a thick wire, bent in a near complete circle about 1.25 in diameter with hook bend on one end. The second is 2.75 inches long. It has a hook bend on one end and "z" like shaped bend with 90 degree bends on the other end. About in the middle there is a about 0.50 inch diameter spring like bend in the same wire. Where do these fit on the latch assembly?
The latch now seems to retract and spring back into place without them.

Photos would be helpful.

Solved part of this mystery with Harold's help. The second spring referenced above, 2.75" long one, is the anti-droop spring. It keeps the outside door handle from drooping downward when not used otherwise.

The other spring,1.25" in diameter, is still a mystery. Jim Carter's shows it it their 2016 catalog, but where and how it fits the rest of the assembly is as yet unknown.

It sounds like the regulator spring. If it is it is inside the window crank handle enclosure.

Your description seems to be for the window regulator springs. Both these are in place. The mystery wire is about 12 gauge wire in size. I found them after the first post in this thread, listed in the Jim Carter Truck Parts Catalog, 2016 edition, on page 24. They show them as Part no.DPH106, described as: "Door Handle Inside Repair Springs 1939-46 behind door panel. returns it to correct position". I am uncertain if this refers to drooping door handle or something otherwise?.
I will call them for additional info about that part and description.
Thanks for responding.

Ok, this is what Jim Carter had for info about the "Door Handle Inside Repair Spring, part number DPH106 in their catalog.

The door linkage the about 12" long and about 1/2" wide piece with slots on each end, needs removed. The spring fits under the inside door handle lever assembly. I can email a photo as needed, just me send a PM with your email address.

Finally figured this interior door latch spring fit problem. If photos wanted of the results and how this fits. Send me a PM here with your email address. I do not use a photo hosting site, sorry.
