A veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard, or reserve - is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to The 'United States of America', for an amount of "up to and including my life."

Pain is part of life; misery is an option.

I am a big fan of real reality shows but to watch those under sea shows gives me mild claustrophobia but enough that I have to turn it off. I applaud their efforts.

What, exactly, have they actually accomplished by finding (and disturbing) a war grave?

Throw a wreath over it and move on. Go find Amelia's airplane if you want to solve a real mystery.

"They are complying with U.S. law and respecting the sunken ship as a war grave, taking care not to disturb the site. The Indianapolis remains the property of the U.S. Navy and its location will remain confidential and restricted by the Navy."

In my feeble mind John, Finding it, is in its own way, remembering the fallen.
To disturb it would be a sin.
Have a ceremony to commemorate their sacrifice for our Freedom and move on.

Amelia, is still alive, on a distant star ship.
Don't ask me how I know.

Thankfully at the depth she's been found and assuming the folks that discovered her stick to their brief, she should and would remain undisturbed for the forseeable future.
The technology involved in even reaching her is still massively expensive and out of the reach of less scrupulous types.

In my opinion her discovery might finally provide some closure for living relatives of the victims that I believe was and is still is to this day (and hopefully will remain) the single largest loss of life on a U.S Navy vessel.

At 3.5 miles down, the Indy is safe. What's always kinda bothered me see the tourist divers around the wrecks near Truk and Guadalcanal. The ships are treated as if they were placed there for their enjoyment. Thousands died there.

When I was stationed on Okinawa in the 1970's divers would occasionally bring up artifacts from the battle there. I remember seeing a cylinder assembly from an aircraft engine, and a few other pieces of rusty metal that had been recovered. My grandfather's younger brother died on an Okinawa beach during the invasion, so I have a somewhat personal connection to the Pacific war. The dangerous stuff was on dry land, however, like the live grenade some kids down the street from my off-base apartment were playing with. When the EOD guys from Kadena air base slid it down a chute into their armored recovery truck, it went off!
