Is everyone camping or staying at a hotel? I will be trailering my truck since I will be bringing back another engine in the new truck.

Presidential order: Bring back the 'another engine' in your Stovebolt, no need to trailer a perfectly good truck.

Mr. President, I will do everything in my power and knowledge to drive the truck there under its own power. I will keep you informed of my status since I have not driven it that far as of yet.

Just drive it. Some years ago I had never driven my 52 out of the county in several years of owning it. Then one day a friend and I jumped in and drove it west, saw the ocean off California, up to Canada, and back home in a month.
You'll never know how far or how much fun if you don't try.

My experience was the same. We are hemmed in by a bridge to the west, a bridge to the east, Chessie bay south, and DC north. Had to get over those bridges and once I did there has been no looking back.

I remember the second time I went to Homecoming I decided to take Doughboy (pre overdrive). I never drove it more than 5 miles from home prior to that. I went to the store to pick up supplies before heading out on that Friday morning. As I was loading them into Doughboy, I was asking myself, "what are you doing?", as I was contemplating the 100+ mile trip, on the beltway and all, knowing I was only going to be able to go 35-40 mph, downhill!. Then I remembered the words of Grigg, Sweet, and other bolters, "Trust your truck!". I jumped in and took off!

I trust my truck, just dealing with an issue that caused me to bE towed home 3 times and limped home twice! As I said before, I think I have the issue figured out so hopefully I will be good to go after a test drive.

Are you overheating? What oil weight are you using? Have you changed the oil? IIRC, the rocker assembly was really nasty, maybe time for fresh 30 weight.

Using sae 30 for oil. Not over heating, my electric fuel pump was kicking out due to switch opening for lower oil pressure in my 216. That is fixed. Time for a test drive. I have a weird vibration at high RPMs that I am trying to figure out...... Transmission assembly or engine issue is the question. I will rule it out and get a second set of eyes on it. Otherwise, she sounds great! Need to adjust valves (class would be great as long as I get to do it)

Griggs stated he will bring what is needed to adjust the valves. Anyone in on a refresher training, it will be my first time. (Case of beer!) Only one thing, you can assist me, but I get to do my truck! Any other things anyone needs assistance with? I am willing to help.

Hardshell,
Last year the guys reserved room for all of us. My guess is they will reserve us slots when they do the final headcount. Somehow, they always get the most scenic and best spots! See you there!

As much as I would love to join the fun with you guys, the show always conflicts with the bluegrass festival I attend every year. It's not far from the show (on the Shenandoah River), but I can't get out of the festival after getting in.
If it's any consolation, I will be camping in Doughboy all week long.
You guys have fun (I know you will) and be safe. Safe travels!!

Mr president, despite a major set back, we are still moving forward with progress on a driveable truck. Replacing transmission and mount on Saturday due to mechanical issues and a shot mount. Next will be a few minor things to include a test drive and I will be good to go! Save my spot, I will have my truck there, driven under her own power!
Are you looking at parking same place as last year? I might need room for a tent.
See you all soon!

Billy and all y'all, I believe that firewood crossing state lines is a no-no as per John's information last year. We need VIRGINIA WOOD! HA HA!

Good Morning Gents - DJ, Bill, and probably Jim will be leaving from ODSS north Friday morning "turnpike early". Assuming we overcome a tire situation we will be welcoming a new (old) 49 into the fold. Bill's imron red (painted by DJ and Pop) will be on my borrowed trailer. Miley will be accompanying us and more than likely jump into 53 green 1-ton's truck as soon as she sees him. They are at one with each other and Jim lets her ride on that big console between the seats.
In the cargo area we will be carrying some jewelry Grigg negotiated up this way as well as a 216 bartered with another Stovebolt member. I look forward to making my way down - and Roach, I envy your Wednesday arrival.
Look forward to that cooler full of PBR's with friends.......You are my friends right ?

Hey John, I'll bet PBR acronym means Pabst Blue Ribbon cause that's what Philly crowd prefers. Ask me how I know? My people come from south philly, raised in Jersey, and made trek south of the Mason Dixon line for Army promotions. Forgetabout it! V/R, Nick

Nick ... Um, yeah ... About PBR ... Most people don't know what a "Patrol Boat, Riverine" is, so we usually use that moniker for the , as the Hamster says, swamp urine that is Philly Beer. Like the Aussies says, "Pabst Blue Ribbon -- That's "Philly" for 'Weasel Urine'." About Buddy ... He even has a surf board he can ride to the show (both a long board and a short board). Aloha

Just got back from the grocery store and loaded up the Stovebolt command vehicle. As soon as the meatman arrives tomorrow evening, I will be on the road Headed for Winchester. As Camp commandant, I would like to remind all campers to make sure they register. That is one of the requirements of the show and all the money goes to the area food Bank's. See you all in Winchester

I will even pre-register this year! That will be a first. On a side note, is there anyone attending that has the ability to repair original radios, or know someone reliable that does? Getting ready to get mine repaired and instead of sending it out I'd just drop it off. Let me know. Jim

Fred, I will never forget that year either. Hopefully we will get to meet again someday. Sweet, I did have some help the assistant camp commandant got here before I did and laid the groundwork. Mikey arrived about 20 minutes after I did. See you tomorrow Cosmo, and yes Chris same place as always. Beautiful night for sleeping last night and an absolutely gorgeous morning this morning.

From the Quarterdeck here at Stovebolt HQ, I hope you guys have a great weekend and a good time. With the weather forecast and the attendance roster, you can not fail.
Tomorrow, I am going to slip away from here for a couple of hours to run up to the Severn River School for Wayward Youth and spend a little time with my classmates (this is our 30th Reunion), but other than that, I will be right here attending to my duties. Wish I was there ...
Have fun. Be nice to Billy.
Carry out the plan of the day!

Mr. President,
I tried my best, but I fell short. I am in the process of getting my truck towed to the house. I am currently 30 miles from the house and even farther from the link up site. It sounds like something let lose inside the engine. Not sure what it is since the rods are still in place, has the correct amount of oil and it didn't overheat. I guess that I will be driving my NEW truck to link up with you guys. Don't worry, I will do my best to keep the beer cold.

Chris, sorry for the bad luck. Keep fighting, you will get it. There were several other that had some bad luck on the way here, much worse than what you endured. Remember , it could have been worse.
Just got back from the big dinner, delicious pork tenderloin. Everyone is firmly planted in a chair with smiles on their faces too full to move.
Great day here, a little warm but not too bad. Lots of trucks, not sure the total but the show grounds look fairly full.
Hope tomorrow is another great day. We sure miss all of our fellow bolters that couldn't make it.

Had a great time seeing old friends and meeting a couple new ones. Thanks as always to Billy for the hard work and hospitality. It's always a good time with fellow bolters, but it's never the same when you're missing John and Sweet. I hope everyone has a safe trip home and hopefully the main contingent of the ODSS can make it to the next event.
Take care, George

Saw a lot of nice trucks today. But joining that line of great "Stovebolts" was the highlight of the day. Thanks for the warm welcome. Enjoyed meeting all of you.

ODSS Brothers, I had a fantastic time today! The 1948 Chevrolet 3100 was treated with royalty with Mike, Dave, TJ, Chris, et. al., preforming diagnostics to determine what was causing the turn signals to not work, and then doing a complete tune up (first since I acquired the 1956 235 motor). Finally, Mike assisting with how I can get my brake light back. I truly appreciate Dave showing my son John how to do a proper tune-up. Thanks guys. Until we meet up again next year, happy motoring with your vintage stovebolt trucks! V/r, Nick Cavallaro, Bel Air, MD

Other than missing a few trucks and owners, we had a great time. Owen did not want to leave and asked to stay another day! Thanks everyone for making this a memorable experience for Owen and I. See you all at homecoming (with my truck running!).

Drive home was most pleasant. Solo, keeping up with RT 17 traffic which was light. Windows down. Truck did great there and back. Thanks Billy for Commandant-ing all weekend. Weather could not have been better.

Another Great Tri-State Antique Truck Show. There were a few regulars that couldn't make it and they were surely missed. Jim (53 green 1-ton) had an emergency at work that changed his plans. That emergency lead him on a late night bonsai run for parts that coincidentally took him right down 81 past the fair grounds . Luckily he was able to stop in and visit with us before he had to get back on the road. Special thanks to George for bringing a range box full of chow with him! The move of the the show dinner from Saturday night to Friday messed up those plans but I could almost taste those tatters that he made a few years back. Next year we will get that all worked out. Seems like everyone contributed in one way or another to make this one great. HB cooked breakfast for everyone one morning, Preisdent Cosmo brought donuts everyday, the Philly boys (Joe, Dave, Pops and Bill) all contributed to the dinner. Chris and Owen brought supplies including a ton of coffee, always important. Chris should get the tuff luck award for the problems he had that kept his truck at home. I know his percerverence will get that truck there next year. For the big dinner Saturday night, Josh and Janine made a big ol pot of Gumbo and Artie supplied his yearly anticipated chili. As always, thanks to my two camp assistants, Artie and Mike. Camp Stovebolt wouldn't be what it was without those two guys. Nick (NJC) was generous to bring a bounty of truck supplies from his work for giveaways. Nick we decided, since we didn't have a regular assembly after the big dinner that we will save that stuff for Homecoming. Thank you sir! I'm sure I missed something or someone so thank you to all that were there, hope everyone had as much fun as I did. Great weather, great food, great friends...sounds like a Bolter weekend to me! See you next year!
Oh and by the way, if you didn't know, the all time truck record stood at 305. This years total was just over 320 I believe.

Don ... Billy, Nick, George and Chris did a pretty good job of description -- I've have an excellent mental portrait painted for me of the weekend. Besides, actual pictures would probably just get people in trouble ... Wow, I missed a good one -- fun times, good weather, lots of trucks ... figures. At least we beat Cincinnati ... Beat Army! I prefer to think of my misfortune as an expensive learning experience. Truck or no truck, I had fun. My truck will be at homecoming AND Winchester next year. Might need to request a class at homecoming to change my rearend gear so I can go slightly faster.
Thanks again for the fun, Owen cried and didn't want to leave so you guys made a lasting impact on him.
Chris
