More info please. How far do you plan to pull, speeds, hills or flat land? 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton or 1 ton? How much does your trailer weigh? There is a right one we just need more info on how you plan to use it. secret

I know people do it, but I towed a small boat & trailer behind a Dart (225" slant 6, 145 hp) and it was misery unless the road was downhill.
There is no conventional speed equipment that will add 50 hp (my opinion: minimum).
The most practical is probably a turbo (eBay: Chinese turbo from On3 for $500 new) since the engine can remain completely stock except for ignition timing and the oil lines. Only works when you put your foot down.

GMC's didn't come with a 261, perhaps it was swapped in? Is it a V6? I think they used 270, 302 through '62. A close ratio 5 speed with a 302 should be adequate.

1960 was the first year of the V6. If it has a straight 6 it is not original to the truck.

Maybe 60GMCFlat's truck is Canadian, then the 261 would be correct.

He lives in Washington state, The truck may have crept across the border just to confuse you yanks. Get that darn wall up!

Our light GMC trucks had Chevy running gear. All the body work was just like your GMC trucks.
