Well, I now have a 4.10 in my 48 1 ton panel. everything went well but I have a leak coming from the flange where the pinion bearing retainer bolts up to the pumpkin. It looks like all I need to do is drop the driveline and pull the retainer out. question is, how big of a pain is it to pull that unit out?
Thanks in advance,
Les

Well, I dropped the drive line, removed the 5 flange bolts and the bearing retainer won't budge. I don't want to mess something up. Can I remove the pinion bearing retainer from the front without taking the carrier back out?

Les, my 51 3600 has the original 4.57 geared HO72. When I replaced the leaking pinion seal I removed the 1 5/8th pinion nut (thin wall socket required, I made one with the bench grinder, a cotter key also has to come out) then removed the pinion bearing housing bolts, then tapped it with a hammer. No drama, just work.

Also don't forget to mark the pinion nut before turning it so you can tighten it to the same spot on reinstall.

Good Luck

Many thanks Moparguy! I'll give that a shot.
