I got this from another site I frequent. These people are out there so be vigilant. There is a person infiltrating sites and responding to parts wanted postings then ripping people off. The person doesn't register, has no screen name and no posts. They just read the public postings then respond to people who are looking for parts. This person responds by email & even sends pictures of the desired part(s). The main red flag is payment is demanded by Moneygram or bank transfer, no paypal. This person has been known to use the email address: grahamspares@gmail.com. If you receive an email from this individual don't respond. If you want to respond to this global announcement, you have to go to the source, but a thread posted by Truly Vintage. For some reason you cannot reply to a Global thingy (thanks for the note, Tim L.) -- Peggy

If someone like this is caught, or found out -- what can be done? Can the person be arrested or anything? Does anyone know?

If the person(s) is using the U S Mail for any of his dealings, the Post Master General can be notified and in some cases is able to help, even to the point of prosecuting. Fraud through the USPS is a federal offense.

Most of these scams originate outside the borders of the U.S. Be alert and careful who you deal with and how you pay.

There is a guy stalking another site that is very knowledgeable about old cars, tells convincing stories and always has the part you need describing it perfectly. He has ripped off a few guys that normally would not fall for this type of scam. Has used different cities in California and asks for a Walmart money transfer. Be vigilant.

Had a guy tell me he got my number from someone at s flea market, and that he had a set of six NOS 1941-46 5 lug GMC rims. Story was very convincing, started with the hurry up as he was flying out to New Mexico that very day and he insisted on shipping it via greyhound, and he could not send pictures because he had an old phone, he had no bank account or PayPal, or Facebook Venmo. I said if you really Must sell them today get them to a shipper and give me a photo of the rims in a visible shipping center of your choice with a shipping order on top, and I will call that shipper to verify and pay the shipping, and send your money anywhere you want. Enter the New York buyer, and the stubborn cousin, who is a lawyer but get this, his phone is sooooooo old he had to have it modified to work on Verizon. FULL STOP. So I guess the "New York buyer got those six and another four that he "really" wanted". This guy Brian Collar was supposedly up in Concord California and was rushing off to pay tax on inherited property in New Mexico. He used the phone number (510)320-6644, claimed to be 56, divorced, and father of two grown daughters one of which was 35. As I look at our five or six phone conversations I can see how he built up his entire story on what I suggested by each question I asked. Very fluid scam, but the big hurry up coupled with no photographic evidence of identity, or existence of ANY rims at ANY location, not to mention a drivers license in frame with the rims about to be shipped at a shipping office with paperwork legible in frame also was a huge NO GO.

I continue to use this approach even though my nephew is long retired as the top executive of an international trucking company. When contacted I'd tell the "seller" that my nephew could route a truck to a pickup point near the sellers address, pay in cash, and save us both from any shipping costs. NOT ONE ever responded.

Was called last night by a guy claiming to have the part I needed. Long story short, it was a scam. This is the info I got from him:
name- Daniel Bolton; phone-7752133571; email- db355576@gmail.com; business name- Mindblown Industries; also Busted Spokes Enterprises.
If you do use Paypal to pay for an item, be sure to use their link "for goods or services", that is the only way to be protected if you don't get the item. Never use the "family and friends" link.
