Time to start thinking about the signature Fall event for the ODSS -- The Tri-State Antique Truck Show in Winchester, VA Most of us arrive throughout the day on Thursday and stay through Sunday morning. Accommodations are mainly camp out, but there is a motel or two fairly close to the fairgrounds. Lots of fun and we always have a good time, rain or shine. And we would love to have the Norfolk crew join us this year!

Sir, I will arrive Friday 25 Sep o/a 15:00hrs, staying at Fairfield Inn (540-665-8881)($88.81/night taxes included. Hopefully, you could possibly shoot some pics for a ODSS 2016 calendar. Why? Arriving solo, quick trip, many committments prior and after the Tri-State Show. Thanks John. V/r, Nick

The registration form looks to be for people wanting to display their trucks - can truckless folks show up and wander through, or is there a different form? I'm looking at the calendar to see if I can make it. -Kevin

Kevin,
Sure -- the show is open to spectators and no preregistration. They just ask for a small donation at the gate which goes to a food bank.
Once you get there, just look for us. We won't be hard to find. If we aren't with the trucks (easiest one to spot will be either Mike B's firebolt or Billy Marlow's '46 COE that's Corvette yellow and Saturn Blue (or something like that)), we will be in Camp Stovebolt which is the closest group of campers to the South Entrance (Show Truck entrance/exit). See you there!

I'm in too! Come heck or high water ( think we experienced that in '09) with my Saturn blue cabover!!! Kevin, it's a very fun, laid back kind of show. I think they broke a record for spectators last year. If you feel like staying the night, plenty of room to pitch a tent or bring a camper. No show truck needed to come and have fun.

I'm planning on coming. Got to work on a little overheating issue, but maybe without the ICM (ice cream machine) i will be ok. Runs better though after the Sweet treatment. Should be fun!!

"ICM"-I like that. Sounds like some sort of weaponry or maybe a Stovebolt computer chip of some kind. Speaking of, I had a few bites of left over peach just last night.....

Same here! If you *drive* the Ford, it will have MFP status in Camp Stovebolt (Most Favored Parking).
Speaking of ... Mike Roache -- Do you have logistics worked out for Dempsey yet? If not, I was thinking he could go on the trailer with Charlie... Charlie is 19 feet, bumper to bumper. Add a foot of separation and that gives us 26 feet for Dempsey (Per the Maryland trucking handbook, I'm allowed 6 feet of overhang off the back of the trailer). Weight wise, Charlie is about 4,100 lbs. As long as Dempsey weighs less than 10,900 lbs, we're good to go.

I would luv to drive the "53" down! It's about a 4.5 hour ride at 55 mph. All highway! Conditions have to be just right. Hopefully cooler temps would be nice! the A/C is not up to par?? Power steering is a little sluggish also. Heated seats only work when I have gas!!! With all of that said, I'm up for the adventure. We'll see!

Joe, thanks for that suggestion. I just gave the block and radiator a normal flush, replaced the 180 thermostat with a 160 thermostat. Made the DBAT trip over the blue ridge mountains and back with no problems. I'm declaring victory for now. see you in Winchester.

I was thinking since John was so kind to offer transportation, that he could stop by here on the way and we could load Doughboy on the back of Dempsey. I guess that's out now.

THANK YOU John, I think I'll take you up on that ride. Dempsey has not seen his home show in years. I think he's heavier than all thinks with all that old worn oak bed. So I call dibs on Johns trailer. Hey Everybody!!! Dempseys Coming Back To Winchester!!!! And the Lifeboat, golfcart, and maybe Josh and Ike.

Maybe you can prod Josh into settling the debt *he* owes me ... Then we can get back to our real business -- settling this weigh off between Dempsey and the Corvette/Saturn hotrod of Marlow's. BTW, did you know he has a Corvette engine in that truck?? I never have gotten the point of that truck anyhow ... I propose that the lighter truck buys the first round Thursday afternoon!

Mikey, tell Josh to quit playing with hay and come to Winchester. All work and no play......
Proposal excepted!
(I don't mine the Corvette reference but the Saturn one is a little embarrassing....) You are correct about the Corvette engine except, jeeze, now everyone knows...

I like it. Nothing better than a nice, crisp, clear fall day!
Mike ... If you guys end up with unsold hay, don't forget the Loveville Produce Auction. Harry Z has Big Tex loaded to go through the auction Friday. It got rained on so its for mulch or cattle, though.

darn, that sucks. We got lucky that day we borrowed your trailer. We were able to get rid of the hay that got wet. We just aquired about 6 more acres in Morganza and Laurel Grove. We are gonna spray and kill all the fields and till and plant for the spring. Gonna be a busy fall as long as the weather holds. Josh is in process of buying a new tractor and may be able to bale with it Thursday or Friday.

I'll bring the Stovebolt EZUp and table.
I will also bring a case of bottled water and veggies. There's still sweet corn, cantaloupe, squash, tomatoes ...

Billy, Went down and loaded Dempsey on the trailer with Charlie. Came home and loaded the pickup fuel and ice for the beer. Hook up to the Lifeboat 2 in the AM and meet John somewhere on 234 for the short convoy to Sheetz in King George to meet up with Mike B.

Good morning, everybody! Fine morning -- Freyja and I just got back in from our usual morning PT and it is glorious out there. Stars out the wazoo. Just have a few more things to load and we'll be ready to roll. I have three fire extinguishers on the rig, so that shouldn't be a problem THIS time Johnny V and Gary will likely meet up with us in Dahlgren. Dempsey and Charlie look pretty cool on the trailer together It would be even cooler if they're both still back there when I get to Winchester ... Charlie's butt is hanging off the back of the trailer but I have the parking brake set pretty good so it shouldn't go anywhere. Plus, I told Charlie to "Stay!" and he's way better at that than Freyja See you in a few! Windo -- Glad I scrolled up!! I have one for you and I'll go throw it on the truck now!

Wow. 150 miles each way, solo. Truck ran great. Nice drive through Virginia. Good to see everyone, good food, good fun. I suspect my Saturday departure led to charges during the evening fire. I will defend during our next meeting. Thanks to Billy and Amtrak Joe for shoring up the campsite.

Yep, another great show in the books. The rain held off until sometime early this morning and then quit by the time we all hit the road. Fortunately we made it home without any check engine lights on the MH on the return trip which was a relief. It had me somewhat anxious. The bad news is I noticed oiled drops in the driveway when I pulled it into the shop. I haven't had the energy to investigate that yet. Thanks to my assistant Camp Commandant for securing Camp Stovebolt ( and to Joe for assisting the Assistant as he was actually the first to arrive). I never did hear a count on the number of trucks that attended the show but I think my mid morning Saturday it looked to be a pretty good turnout. Great to see everyone, and look forward to the next get together. For those that couldn't make it, you were missed for sure. Oh and, just to make it official, we have a new lady in the ODSS and her name is Miley. She's a real cutie!

That's why he needs to look into it, it's not a Detroit. I did notice one small drop of oil on the table that was tucked under there, my guess is engine oil.
I also had a great time, good to see the usuals and a few new folks too. Thanks to all for the good food and friendship.

Well, I didn't have a good time. No sir. Not enough rain. No mud. No huddled masses under awnings trying to keep warm and dry. No having to retreat into campers for "Smokey and the Bandit." (That part really sucked -- I was really looking forward to watching Smokey and the Bandit ... for the 8 millionth time. It just never gets old) It wasn't cold enough. It wasn't hot enough. Too many guys hanging around relaxing and enjoying each other's company. Too many good cigars. Too much good chili and dogs and burgers and ... Too much good beer and other, um , spirits... Too much fun. And we didn't get yelled at for anything (what fun is THAT??). Too many cool trucks to look at. Not enough jabber about NASCAR ... or the Mechanicsville Fire Dept. .... Yep, all in all, the weekend pretty much blew. Thanks everyone! Yeah, Speaking of the Veteran's day parade, Mike ... If you are going with us, I need an email or something to that effect. Verbals (if given) don't count -- I've already forgotten it if you've said anything to me.

Sorry, but Pope Francis Mass at Philadelphia this weekend (which my wife and I were able to receive communion) was a tad more important. I do look forward to more time. Great time with the Stovebolters, many things accomplished under the big top...renewing friendships in person, polishing off of a 3/4 Qt. Ball Jar, Sweet and I in our trucks @ 75 mph side by side headed south on Interstate 81, yard saling w/ Grigg, our fine late night Red-Stovebolter-Jacket-Clad-Executive-Committee-Stand-Up Meeting. Like all who have posted, looking forward to our next get-together. "Space Shuttle, _____ Cotton, ...a swing like..." Had to be there for those gems folks!

John does have some good pictures and cool video. He worked on them as long as he could last night ... I bet he'll finish up and upload tonight, especially if it rains here.
There is another great Stovebolt line-up shot.
It was good to see all your pretty faces - in the photos anyway.

And I also had a great time. I took a much slower back road trip home. Wet roads, but only about 20 miles of rain. I forgot what should have been one of my major thank yous because I am not so good on my feet spontaneously. I needed to thank all those brothers who really really like Grigg's ice cream! That was the real reason i bet for my over-the-top award!!And also Grigg for convincing me my old babbit splasher could do it. Thanks guys!!

Sounds like you guys had another great time....big surprise!!! I'll just have to skip the bluegrass festival one year so I can be in Winchester. Rest assured, Stovebolt was represented at the festival with Doughboy!

I've started going through the pictures Joe and I (mostly Joe ... ) took with his camera & lenses. There's a lot to go through! Here's a sneak preview of what's coming. They are huge files and I have to deal with each one individually so it will take some time to get them all downloaded, processed, artsie fartsied up and then reloaded to photobucket. Took about an hour and a half to do the group photo. BTW, Joe -- The group photo was done with 4 layers (sky and three layers just to get you added in (easier than adding me in -- you had some great black areas behind your head and Larry has some nice straight lines to his sleeve .... ) I was piecing larry back together like Dr Frankenstein ... Enjoy! Hopefully Joaquin will give me time to mess with the others.

Billy, ah ah ah ... that's an especially good picture. John was up late last night and early this morning working on these pictures. He really enjoys doing them. Too bad we don't have better internet speed. He's got a cool video to upload. We may have to take it someplace to upload it. I think like Denny G's old post, it would take four days!

Thanks Billy.
My monitor needed cleaning. After spraying beer I had no other choice.

Thanks for posting John. It's really cool to be 1,000 miles away and can name almost everyone in the pictures.
Thanks Don

Does anyone want any prints of these pictures? We have used York Color Labs (on-line) in the past for our stuff and they do great. I usually wait for their 50% off sale or BOGO deals.
I don't have time now but can check and compare their prices and sizes to who else offers prints. I know I would like a poster size of the truck line up.
