GMC/Chevy interchange #111880

If I have a complete 52 Chevy front end can I put it on a 54 GMC cab? This would be a hot rod using some left over parts so I am not interested in keeping an original look.

Yes, if you replace all of the front sheetmetal, including the hood. If you have leftover GMC sheetmetal parts, feel free to ship them to me.

Phil-Thanks for the reply. I may have some parts left which would include an excellent hood and fair front fenders. If you are a GMC guy maybe you can give me a line on a glove box door and ash tray for a 54.

The '54-'55.1 GMC glovebox door and ashtray are rare and fairly expensive items. I got my glovebox door for a decent price because it was mismarked as a much more common item, and a badly pitted ashtray and bracket that I just bought cost $20. I'm sure if you were to place an ad in the swapmeet, someone would have those parts.

I am a ways from actually needing these parts so am hoping to find them at a bargain in my travels to swap meets,scrapyards, etc. That's part of the fun.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe the GMC radiator sits perpendicular to the framrails where the Chev rad is canted back slightly. This may create a problem getting the inner/outer fenders and the hood latch plate to meet the rad support at the right place.

If you're planning an engine swap, you'll likely need more cooling capacity, so that may end up a non-issue after the new rad is installed.

Hedgehog-Don't have the Chevy here yet so can not look at it to say if right or not. I will be doing an engine swap though and will probably use a" Desert Cooler" type radiator unless someone can give a hint on a stock type radiator that will fit the space without altering outer fenders or hood and handle about 300HP with auto trans. and A/C.

JJ, Sorry it has taken me so long to reply to you about the glove box door. I just got back from Gulfport, MS. I know where a 1954 GMC is sitting in a field along side an AD suburban with clam shell doors. If I can ever find out who owns them, I plan on dragging both of them out of the field. If I can't find the owner, I may have to "confiscate" a few parts off of the GMC. I will let you know next time I travel through that area what the dash parts look like.
