1957 Chevrolet 6700 Superior body School Bus

1957 Chevrolet 6700 Superior body School Bus

Rescued this bus from a field in Capitan, New Mexico.

It has a period correct 283 V8 , 5 spd MT, 2 spd rear.

It used to be a Rangely, Colorado school bus that was acquired at auction in Roswell, NM. A local well driller converted it to an off grid style RV in the late 60s or early 70s and used it as housing for his family while building his house. It ran completely on propane (Engine, Fridge, heat, lights, etc.) with a huge tank inside the bus! It was put out to pasture shortly after his house was complete.
I purchased it in November 2022. So far, the interior has been stripped and pressure washed. There is a fair amount of rusty sheet metal to repair, but overall a very complete old bus.

I hope to have a running driving and stopping shell within a year or so. Eventually an RV conversion may happen.

That should be a impressive project.

Any chance the well driller has a photo, or ... ha, by chance find such treasure in the glove box. grin
